How to enable category listing for selected pages only?

I have been searching this forum all morning and I can't find the answer to my question

In my store (www.shinypetstore.com), since I have very long category listing for my prudcuts, I want to disable the category listing on all pages except few page that I'll create for Dog and Cat products. On these specific pages, I also need to display a subset of categories and not all.

Currently I can turn off category listing for all pages. But I want to be able to have them on for selected pages that my customers will be sent to select specific products.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks so much for reply. What I am trying to do here is only display category listing on selected pages. For example, I don't want category lisitng sidebox on any page but product pages.

I went through the link you have provided. I believe that's what I need, but my challenge is how to use statement like this for category sidebox:

if (!$this_is_home_page) {
$show_featured= false;

In other words, what I should use instead of show_page_name? Something like show_categories?
