In addition to our e-commerce site, we have a brick and mortar store. Does Zen Cart have a barcode scanning feature? And can the admin be set up to handle orders taking cash or checks?

--> No, you may need to check if there is any commercial mod avaiable
There is a free module but it's for an old version:
