PURPOSE & AIM
Image Handler3 at the heart of it's code is really meant to ease the management of product images (particularly the management of additional product images), and to help improve page performance by optimizing the product images.
Image Handler3 generates product images (based on your image settings) in the Image Handler3 bmz_cache folder. It DOES NOT replace or modify the original images. So it's PERFECTLY safe to use on an existing store.
Image Handler3 enables you to use GD libraries or ImageMagick (if installed on your server) to generate and resize small, medium and large images on the fly on page request. You can simply upload just one image or you can have different sources for medium and large images. Image Handler3 further enables you to watermark your images (overlay a second specific translucent image) and have medium or large images pop up when you move your mouse over a small image (fancy hover).
This contribution includes a powerful admin interface to browse your products just like you would with the Attribute Manager and upload / delete / add additional images without having to do this manually via FTP. Image Handler3 works fine with mass update utilities like EzPopulate.
Features
• Improve site performance (faster loading, faster display)
• Professional looking images (no stair-effects, smooth edges)
• Choose preferred image-types for each image size
• Uploading one image automatically creates small, medium and large images on page request
• Drops in and out seamlessly. No need to redo your images. All images are kept.
• Easy install. One-click-database-upgrade.
• Works with mass-update/-upload tools like EzPopulate.
• Watermark images to prevent competitors from stealing them.
• Fancy image hover functionality lets a larger image pop up whenever you move your mouse above a small image (switchable).
• Choose an image background color matching to match you site's color or select a transparent background for your images.
• Manage your multiple images for products easily from one page just like you do with attributes in the Products Attribute Manager.
Image Handler3 is meant to ease the work required to setup images for your store. It works WITH default Zen Cart functionality, it does not replace it. There are a couple of threads which explain what Image Handler IS and more importantly what it is NOT. It is suggested that you read everything before you install Image Handler3. Here's some additional FAQs which discuss how product images and the override system work in Zen Cart. It is strongly suggested that if you are NEW to Zen Cart and web development that you read these threads BEFORE you install Image Handler3.

Nope.. you would be the only one person reporting an issue with the readme file.. Try unzipping the IH3 fileset, and THEN viewing the readme..
Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
Ok. What type of program should open this read me file? my computer seem to default on Internet explorer. That seems wrong.

This is truly not an IH3 support issue.. You need to use a program that can extract the files from the IH3 .zip file. Based on your description it sounds as if you are opening the readme file directly from within the IH3 .zip file. You need to extract the files from the IH3 .zip to correctly view the readme..

what version of zen lightbox are you using as some of the older versions aren't compatible, what are the settings on the bmz_cache folder
Did you actually run the install script admin -- tools -- image hndler - install image handler.
check your /cache file for debug files
Zen lightbox was disable and the file "additional_images.php" was switched to the one that came in the image handler package when I tested. Still did not work.
My page - http://www.ciggen.se
And yes. I did install image handler in the admin section. Both my BMZ_cach and Image folders are set to 755. also tried with 777.

So in the name of closing out this discussion let me add this:
To properly view the IH3 readme file you MUST extract the IH3 .ZIP file (and tell the unzip utility to *retain* folder structures). The IH3 readme is a mini webpage and cannot be viewed properly from within a .ZIP file.. You MUST extract the contents of the IH3 .ZIP to properly view the IH3 readme.
Now at the risk of folks taking what I say/mean here out of context, this really is NOT an IH3 support related issue. I'm sure that others may have had a similar issue.. However, anyone having similar troubles extracting files from the IH3 .ZIP file or who requires further assistance on how to extract the contents of .ZIP files should create a new thread in the forum.
The Zen Cart community is great and there are a ton of folks here who will more than able to provide any further explanations on working with .ZIP files needed.
Unfortunately this support thread is not the place for this discussion. All Zen Cart mods are in .ZIP format so knowing how to extract from .ZIP files is not just required for IH3. Just like learning how to use FTP tools is a skill set that must be acquired for Zen Cart development, knowledge of .ZIP extracting tools is required as well.

So nothing in the /cache folder ?
The images are showing as being in the bmz_cache even though they don't seem to be there
Have a look in side the bmz_cache are there sub_folders being generated there
When i go to view one of the images I get a 500 error (internal server error)
http://www.ciggen.se/bmz_cache/1/1a9...mage.80x80.jpg
If an images isn't there it should be a 404 error like the one below will give
http://www.ciggen.se/1/fake_image.jpg
Something is wrong with the bmz_cache (possibly ownership not permissions)
Did you originally install zencart by yourself or did you use fantastico or simplescripts to install it?
Re: Image Handler 3 Support Thread
I installed zen cart by my self.
There are one sub-folder in bmz. Name of the folder is 0.
I tried to upload a image for my product through the image handler in admin, but it did not work eather.
In my Mysql server it said that I have the GD or what it said in the install instructions.
