I think you may have too many zeros. I think the original example was meant to show decimal places to the right and not necessarily number of zeros to the right of your weight.

Ok, this is what the instructions say on the actual usps module which are different from the instructions found on the file included with the module:
"Volume is set in digits 6-11 after the decimal point in the products weight field.
eg: Product A weighs 1.25lb and is 689.3 cubic inches so,
Product A Weight: 1.25000068930"
My weight is for a 5oz item (0.3125) 9 cubic inches.
So if the volume is supposed to be set on the 6 digit after the point, it should be 0.3125009 (right?)
So I tried that and same result.
If I add 2 products to the shopping cart everything shows fine, as soon as I add one more product the small, large and medium rate options disappear.

With the new weight you suggested (0.3125009) the small rate option doesn't appear anymore, even if I just have 2 products in the shopping cart.
Maybe we need some new math.
A small FR box will hold 70 cubic inches which is embedded into the module. If you are using 9 cubic inches per item, there's a problem.
If 3 will fit into a small FR box and the 4th requires upgrade to either Large video O-1096L box, Med FR or Regional A FR box, then logic suggests that the volume of the items should be something like 20 cubic inches so that 3 will fit and the 4th goes over 70 cu inches.

That's why I used my example product. I know that 5 13cu in items will fit in a Sm FR and the 6th requires upgrade to the Large Video O-1096L box.

if 3 items of 20 cu in gives the correct options, so should 3 items of 9 cu in.
I entered your weight suggestion (0.312500020) same result.
This time I tested further and found something weird happening.
If I add 1 item with my original weight configuration (0.31250000009), small, medium and large FR don't show.
If I add 2 items with my original weight config. small, medium and large FR show!
If I add 3 items, S,M,L FR disappear again.
If I add 4 items, S.M and L FR show up again!

i think that your volume is too small ( 0.31250000009 ) is 9/100 cubic inches and is confusing the calculations. I never looked at the documentation. I added/subtracted zeros until it worked. I'm not sure that your 4 decimal weight may not be causing an issue. You might try rounding 0.3125 to 0.3 pounds and add zeros to get the right volume.
Try using the weight that I use for my product and see if anything changes when quantities 1, 3, 5, 6 items are placed in the cart.
I'm not a coder. Just a user whose site is using this shipping modules without any issues.
My earlier issue today of non-functionality was caused when I reinstalled the module, I forgot to toggle the "Filter by Volume" button.
I just realized that you said 1.3.8 and the module was written for 1.3.9 and may not be backwards compatable.
I have just installed V1.5.0 and there is no USPS in the shipping module.
What do I do now.
I am very familiar with USPS Shipping but I am New as you can be with Zen Cart.

Without going back to look at past orders, the USPS quotes do appear higher than i have seen in the past. With no handling fees, Small FR quotes are coming back as $7.50. First class quotes also seem much higher than in the past. $4.50 seems high for a 0.2 pound first class package.
Something is not working correctly on this module, and I'm guessing USPS made some changes that is messing up the whole thing.
I installed everything and ran the SQL, the admin shows blank field but have no indication/description where the dimensional configuration should go to. Can anyone help?

I am running 1.3.9g with RateV4, IntlRateV2 USPS Module V1.21 dated 2011-29-08 and I ran the SQL patch.
I want to use the following rules:

All other Priority Mail Envelope dimensions in documentation make the module fail. USPS documentation says nothing about envelope HEIGHT. Not specifying height gets it to remove every option and throw errors to screen.
Anybody getting this to work with with Priority Mail Envelopes and Boxes?
The flatrate volumes are already built into the code so dimension definition of the flatrate products is not necessary if you can use volume based filtering. It's just a matter of enabling the volume filter and working on your individual product volumes to cause the filtering to take place.
There is an issue with International firstclass nomenclature after a USPS change back in January 2012 that needs to be corrected if you have a need for it.

Well that's an issue. This tweaked out zen implementation is a custom sticker ordering tool. You upload an image, give it dimensions and different cut options, and the product is 2-D until you order a lot and have a pile of them or when they get so large you roll them up and stuff them in a tube whereupon it becomes 3-D. So we'd have to determine volume dynamically. And occasionally they get orders for samples of a single or just a few small stickers that could easily go into a for-real snail-mail licks-and-stick First Class Main envelope and that would like like a $1.00 shipping method. Agreed the weight filter seems to be working perfectly for all PMFRBs with V1.21 on ZC1.3.9g. The client is now delighted to be able to use Priority Mail Envelopes at their discretion for this scenario. I don't blame Marco for backing off. This represents a lot of work (by him, Ajeh, others). I'd concede on the whole issue except for for this regular First Class Mail thing. This is almost like the client using Zen as part of it's marketing and promo type stuff. THEY ARE UNIQUE in this inventory because these aren't custom stickers, they are pre-designed thus their dimensions are known.Quote:

I'm thinking the custom sticker ordering methods we built and which dynamically generates prices (based on material weight to square inch) are simply products to Zen and the system retains the capability to sell distinct products. If the product fits in a regular old envelope with a stamp the choice to send it in a regular old envelope is determined by quantity. Maybe I need to think in these terms and look at a filter for table rate method for certain products based on quantity.

Until now I've used only the default (built-in) shipping programs that come with ZenCart 1.5.0. Today I tried to install the USPS RateV4 addon, and I'm having trouble locating the language file. After unzipping the download file, I found only two files, as follows:
zen-root > admin > modules.phpzen-root > includes > modules > shipping > usps.php
I installed these two files in the designated directories (although the nature and location of the first file didn't make sense to me). When I went into the shipping modules admin control, I of course got the basic error message that the system couldn't find the usps.php language file.
To see what I might be doing wrong, I downloaded the USPS RateV3 addon. After unzipping the download file, once again I found only two files, as follows:
zen-root > includes > languages > english > modules > shipping > usps.phpzen-root > includes > modules > shipping > usps.php
After I installed these two files in the designated directories, I went into the shipping modules admin control, where I found that the USPS module was now showing in the list (with no error messages).
I didn't configure this USPS RateV3 module, as I assume that the RateV4 module is more current. If someone could tell me what I'm overlooking and where to find the USPS RateV4 language file, I would be most appreciative.

Good morning Ken,
The USPS V3 last updated by Ajeh is the most current and supported USPS module. You can try using the language file from Ajeh's V3 version with RateV4. I haven't a clue whether full functionality will be achieved or whether it would be considered stepping on toes since you would be blending 2 competing versions. The RateV4/IntlV2 has not been confirmed as functional in V1.5x but it does offer a more enhanced option set.

I am having trouble with international first class not showing up. I've read that a few people have also fixed this, but am unable to do it myself. The closest I came to fixing it was renaming Package to Parcel as RixStix suggested in post #163. That got First Class to show up, but the small priority option disappeared. There are a lot of uses of the word Package in the USPS file. I tried to find the right ones. Can anyone offer any more suggestions? I appologize in advance if I missed the fix in this thread. I have admit that after about 15 pages my eyes started to glaze over. :-)

Here is the shipping scenarios that I am trying to accomplish. Up until now I have sold small parts that always fit in a 4x6x3 or a small flat rate box. Now I have a kit that includes enough parts to not fit in either of those boxes. The kit will fit in a 12x9x3 or a medium flat rate box.
Scenario 1:
Customer buys a part. First Class (domestic or international) and small flat rate box are the only options presented during checkout.
Scenario 2:
Customer buys a kit. For a domestic customer: Parcel Post (the kit weighs 1.5 lbs) and medium flat rate box, or for an international customer: First Class international or medium flat rate box are the only options presented during checkout.
Is that possible with this shipping module? If so, would this be accomplished by using weight or volume filtering?

Glad you got it working. It does take a little 'fiddlin' with product volumes if you use that filtering. We know that 5 of one item will fit into a small FR box, 7 in a LargeVideo O-1096L, so we adjusted the individual products to 13 cu inches and the filtering works like a charm.
FYI: There is no volume set for the max allowed in First Class. We use 12.5 cu inches so that anything over will remove the 1st class option because we don't want to allow our 13 cu inch items to be shipped via 1st class.
I just added the latest USPS shipping module to my site (this wasn't any upgrade just a new addition to V.1.5.1 of Zen Cart) and I threw in a test product to see if it was working. I Put the test product in my shopping cart and went there where I found the Shipping Estimate link. I clicked it, added my location information and calculated.
The resulting shipping estimate page doesn't have the USPS shipping on it. It had all the ones that were automatically active like Flat Rate and Per Item which I have since gone in and removed, but I can't figure out how I make the calculated USPS rates appear there.
I've been searching the forum but haven't been able to find anyone that addressed this problem so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I do already have my account number from USPS and have switched to production as I attempted to build this store last year so already had the codes.

Thanks kindly for the response. Actually, I'm quite happy to use Ajeh's Rate V3, as this version installed without a hitch. I just assumed (stupidly, of course) that I ought to push through on the RateV4 because it would be the most current. I only want the module to work, so (with your assurance about the Rate V3 being the most current and supported USPS module), I'll just go with that. I've never actually corresponded with Ajeh, but I've read countless of her posts, and they've led me easily through the ZenCart implementation when otherwise I would have been going rather nuts.

My Zen Cart version is v 1.3.9h.
But I am unable to enter the dimension. Instead I found errors from admin panel:
Warning Shipping Configuration errors!
The parameters set in Package Dimensions Config #1 are invalid, please enter valid shipping parameters. Current setting will be overridden with default: 'regular;+'
The parameters set in Package Dimensions Config #2 are invalid.
Besides I don;t know what's the blank text boxes referring to.

Do a REMOVE and UNSTALL then configure your USPS shipping module ...

You said you installed USPS RateV4 but you are showing the userid for RateV3 ...
Could you do a REMOVE and reload the shipping module via FTP that you think you have installed and say whether it is RateV3 or RateV4 then again do the search in the Developers Tool Kit for:
usps.php
then do an INSTALL and configuration of it in the Shipping ... Modules ... and then a screen shot of what you see in your right hand panel?
I am gathering from all this that if I do not see "dimensions" in my install (1.5.1) that I need to un install and re-install the module.
Once that is done though, are there dimensions that get me a first class envelope rate ($.65)? like height 0" or something?
Actually, looking at the domestic services list built into the mod, first class letter is not in the list.
First Class Package/thick envelope is but the lowest rate for that is 3 oz and nothing other than the default installed dimensions are necessary to display that rate.

Those issues are unrelated to your USPS issues. But you'll definitely need to fix them. Looks like you've not properly installed your GA plugin, or you've partially removed it and it's still trying to load/use parts of it as a result. Either fully remove the problematic plugin, or fully install it. Don't leave it half-installed.Quote:

Try this if you are comfortable making code edits to the \includes\modules\shipping\usps.php file
NOT the language file as this thread is titled.
This is working for me, but I am not able to offer any support other than the edits that I made.
I have customized the max volume for first class packages to be 12.5 cubic inches for our particular business needs (highlighted in RED). If you are using a different value as your max volume for first class, you will also need to make that edit. The module default was 0, if I remember correctly.

Is the a mod to the volume based module or the new USPS shipping module?
One other question. In the products weight, do you still use the same format that the volume based module used?
What I listed is based upon the mod listed subject of this thread.

Can't help you with weight based filter other than what is listed in the mod's ReadMe file. Never had a use for weight based filtering.

It depends upon what you are calling the old and new one ??
That code edits the USPS RateV4, IntlRateV2 module so that first class international package service changes on Jan 27, 2013 would be functional.
The plugin has been updated & is available in the download area for that change to Int'l first class and also to remove 1st class and Priority small flat rate products if value exceeds $400 USD.

I guess I need a little more help. An international customer pointed out that first class wasn't showing as an option on one of my kits. I changed the code as per RixStix's post in the previous page. That fixed it to a point. If I add 2 kits to the shopping cart it doesn't show first class international. I did some trouble shooting and I believe it's volume related.
My kits use this weight: 1.900000084 (1.9 lbs 84 in^3)
My Package Dimension Config is:
3x4x6;1.0
12x9x3;20.0
12x12x15;+
When I add one kit, the debug output is (first class is shown as a shipping option):
weight: 1.0lb, dimensions: 3x4x6
weight: 10.0lb, dimensions: 12x9x3
weight: +lb, dimensions: 12x12x15
Setting dimensions: l=12 w=9 h=3 for Weight: 2.25

For trouble shooting, I added a lot of small products to the shopping cart to get the volume up over ~160 in^3 and the first class option disappears.

I think adding the second kit has exceeded the weight limit set by the USPS for FirstClass International Package Service which is 4 pounds.

Sounds good. That makes sense about the weight. I missed that.
There still seems to be something not quite right about the volume filtering. I can add parts exceeding the 3x4x6 box volume and it still picks the 3x4x6. Also, after 160 in^3 international first class gets dropped even though the weight is well below the limit.
For now, these scenarios haven't affected me so it's all good!!!
I'm pretty sure that the volume filtering only works with the USPS flatrate products or classes that have a max volume entered within the code.
Also, IIRC, when you have volume filtering enabled that any configuration entered into the weight area is ignored.

I am currently trying to upgrade from Ratev3 (@version $Id: usps.php 18348F 2012-01-22 01:22:00Z ajeh $ ) to the latest Ratev4 IntRateV2 on ZC V 1.3.9h. Since Parcel selection is not carrying over to the checkout page since the USPS change to Parcel Select.
Following the instructions of the latest release download which looks to be 1.3 even though HTML file still reads 1.21 and 1.21a.
I have followed the steps below:
Uninstalled the USPS module.
Migrated patch/upgrade files to the corresponding locations on my server.
Installed USPS module.
Entered configuration settings.
Validated no conflicting shipping and/or payment modules exist.
I chose not to install the volume based shipping SQL just yet.
During testing the shipping estimator section in the checkout and Step 2 of checkout page I get a blank page which tells me I did something wrong. Checking the log files points to a getName() function as seen below.

I have reverted back to my backup files and everything is functioning as it was previously. What step am I missing to complete the upgrade/conversion to Ratev4?
I can't be of much help other than saying I didn't touch that part of the code for the recent USPS changes since we don't use Parcel Select.
It looks like that line of the code deals with US Territories if that helps.
Thanks for the response, Rix. I checked that the only region defined is a region for tax purposes. I doubt that is what the US Territories refers to and I am unable to debug further than this line. I tried deselecting the Parcel Select option and it returned with the same error. Would there be any need for me to install Ratev4 from version 1.0 and then upgrade to current? I didn't see anything additional in the versions in between in terms of update files other than the language file.Quote:

Most of the items I ship are in Ounces, and I use first Class mail.
If Larger, I Use Flat Rate Priority mail.
The issue is that when I try to add a Text Item, It Shows Wrong shipping.
Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight 0:0
Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight 0:0
Also When I try to Test International it Shows not Options or Available Shipping Methods.
When Listing an item I put 0.1875 For 3 Ounces and it still wont show 1st class, Domestic Nor International.

You could try it without the Extra Services and compare rates between Retail and Online ...
Then, add the Extra Services that you want and compare rates between Retail and Online ...
See if that is creating the difference in prices that you are seeing ...
NOTE: First Class Letter only shows for up to .21875 ... unlike the other First Class methods that go to 13oz (0.8125) ...

Could you turn on the debug log and get the debug log for usps from your /logs and post that?
Also, be sure your 1st-Class Letter and 1st-Class Intl Letter Maximum is: .21875 as that is the highest it can go ...

I am not sure how you are getting the rate of $1.69 for up to 3oz when the USPS.com web site is giving higher on their website ...
There is something moofy that I need to look into on the way USPS sends back its quotes as it will send all three back as:
First-Class Mail Parcel
once it gets over 3oz ... even through the quotes are asked for for the 3 different types so I am going to have to see if I can't come up with a slightly better translator for that for when people want to use all 3 First-Class methods based on Max/Min weights ...
Well For now, I've only selected Parcel 1st Class and Priority mail.... International is Working JUST FINE Now....
But still having an Issue With 1st Class Mail... But I guess Parcel will work for now.
Is there a way to set this up for International orders only? i am currently using this in my store and while it works fine the way i set it up, it might be confusing to our customers. I have setup the USPS settings to only allow International Priority shipping - no domestic options as we use UPS and Fedex for those. The trouble is that when a customer in the US is checking out in Step 1 where it shows shipping options, it shows USPS as an option but with the following message - We are unable to find a USPS shipping quote suitable for your mailing address and the shipping methods we typically use. I would like it to not show anything at all for USA customers and USPS. Same for International customers, i would only want it to shows USPS and not our domestic shipping options.

Make a Zone Definition for the Rest of the World and add it to the USPS shipping module and it will block the USPS shipping from showing ...
If you look in the FAQs at the Zone Definition something like this one:

Hi, after installing, configuring and testing this version I noticed that if I select to have "insurance" as an additional feature for the package/order, it adds it to the quote INSTEAD of showing it as an option as you can do on usps.com. Is it possible to accomplish this? I don't want to force shoppers to pay for something that's actually optional with USPS.
Trying to figure this out and looked through more then half this thread but didn't see my question. New to the whole css and everything. I need to install this for my site but don't understand this:
Extract usps.php into your zencart shipping module directory. (what is the actual path name?)
The zip archive matches the default directory structure in ZenCart. (Is it supposed to be still zipped when we upload through filezilla?)
You must Uninstall (how-just delete?)and reinstall your usps shipping module and re-enter your configuration(what configuration). Remember to keep your USPS UserId handy before you uninstall the module. (I don't have one-where do I go to get one?)
Using current version of zencart.
You will probably find this version more useful. It is better supported, better documented and tested in all current zen-cart versions.

I just added the new files to my shipping folders and now the USPS option has disappeared from my modules, help!
I'm using Version 1.3.9h
Usually this will happen because yo uhave:
1 backup/renamed files in the:
/includes/shipping
2 have accidentally added the code module to:
/includes/languages/english/shipping
3 do not have a usps.php language file in:
/includes/languages/english/shipping
Peek in your debug logs at:
/cache or /logs depending on your Zen Cart version ...
What does the newest debug error say?

Hello, after my upgrade to J5 version (1.3.9h) each time I go to the shipping modules page, I get this error:

Which version are you "really using" USPS J5 or Marco's code?
If you've been using Marco's code, that error is the Admin file:
/your_admin_dir/modules.php
there are references in Marco's release in that file ... just upload a clean modules.php for your version of Zen Cart and it should clear up that error message ...
Then use the USPS J5 release instead.
