Hey everybody.
Here in New Zealand our postal service provider has applied their usual annual price increases without increasing their quality of service, as usual.
As there is no shipping module for NZPost I have to use the Zone Rate table. It's fine, it's not accurate but when shipping quotes result in an overcharge we will refund the difference.
There two problems with NZ Post rates, there is one set of charges for South Island and one for North Island and an additional charge for Rural. It would be awesome if I could have two tables, one for the South Island and one for the North Island, but, there is no international country code for NZ South and North Islands.
However, it would be awesome if someone could create a plug-in which would apply the rural charge which currently stands at NZ$5.70. At the moment there is no way to be able to charge this and so, for every order we receive going to a rural address we lose that amount.
If it were possible to include a check box on the checkout page to appear for just New Zealand customers, when ticked, it will apply the current rural rate. However, this rate only applies to parcels, Rural charge isn't applied to letters. The accompanying wording for the check box would have to be something along the lines of "Please tick this box if you have a rural address and your order is a parcel."
Of course the customer will need to be able to determine if their order will fit in a parcel or letter. Hopefully the cost of shipping quoted will be a good indicator if the order is being sent by letter or parcel.
Any takers out there? This would solve a small but significant problem for us.
Many thanks, John.
