Is it possible to hide or password protect one particular category so that category and the items in it won't show up anywhere else on my website?

I am not aware if this can be done from the Admin
But why would you want to do this?

In love with Zen Cart!!
I sell on eBay and direct my buyers to my website to pay via credit card (we don't take PayPal).
I have a category called 'Sold eBay Auctions' where I enter my eBay items. I've set up the Quick Order page where they can just enter the eBay auction # and it adds it to the shopping cart.
Usually this works great....but it never fails you'll run into a few buyers that just can't get it to work and they get an error. So for the people who can't /won't use the Quick Order page, I've got the Sold eBay Auctions category visible right now.
Problem is...even though the item says "SOLD AT AUCTION" in big red letters, it still says "Buy Now" until the eBay customer comes and pays for it.
Unfortunately, I've had a few people 'buy' these items outright lately and it's becoming a pain to deal with. Particularly one customer who is driving me crazy in several different ways!![]()
I thought if maybe I had the whole category hidden, I could send my buyers a link to just that page and hopefully eliminate the problem.
I'm open for any alternative suggestions too!!![]()
So, you mean to say you want the particular category should be shown to a specific users?Originally Posted by Boggled

Can I have the link to your present site?
So in brief this is what we are looking at:
1. Admin should be able to change which category to show to which user(s)
2. If a category is not meant for other user and he clicks on it, he should get 'Restriction error message' etc
In my opinion this will make more sense on the product leve. What do you say?

Sounds like that could work. :)

did you get this to work as i need something very similar
This would take a bit of work to the code in order to get it to work. I would go with paypal. At the end of the day they are just about as cheap as any other merchant provider and are glued in pretty tightly with ebay and they already do this quite nicely.

I actually found a work around just by putting everything I sell on eBay as 'out of stock' but allowing checkout anyway.Originally Posted by slingman

2. Nope. My merchant provider rate is lower than PayPal, plus I have better control and opportunity for input if a chargeback situation arises.
3. They're not only glued in pretty tightly with eBay...they're in bed with them. I'd rather not give eBay any more fees than I absolutely have to.
4. One of the main points of doing it this way is to direct people to my website where they purchase more stuff.
5. Did I mention I hate PayPal?![]()
