Great Module and use it all the time

However with shippers now getting a bit snarky over bulky items it has created a problem for us and I dare say quite a few others.

This module relies totally on weight. Is there a way to to get it to convert volume to weight.

I see it working as such

If a product has it's height x length x width set it calculates the corresponding "determined" weight and if higher it uses this as the basis for calculating the shipping cost.

Example using beans for a bean bag

    Actual weight is 1.5 kg
    Length 120cm
    Width 20cm
    Height 20cm

This gives a cubic measurement of 0.048cubic metres. If a shipper calculates a cubic metre as being 200kg this would make the determined weight 9.6kg and that is what they would charge.

They current module would need an alteration to
    1. Determine if volume measurements exist for the item
    2. If they do calculate the "determined weight"
    3. Use the determined weight instesd of the physical weight

The admin module would also require a volume weight field for working this out. ie 1 volume unit = xxx physical weight unit.

A slight alternative is doing this at the end of the order - that is all item volumes are calculates at the end of the order and depending on which is higher - the physical weight or the determined weight this is used for the shipping calculation.

    Any ideas on this one?

    Thanks

For accurate shipping calcs, I have set the maximum package weight at 40# (in Configuration/ Shipping/Packaging). This gives me the most realistic results for UPS rates.

For heavier orders, ZoneTable would work great. Problem is, it seems to not work with the Max Pkg Weight so low. It calcs everything at the rate for a 40#.

Is there a way to get the ZonesTable or RegionTable mods to ignore the Max Pkg Weight and just calc on total weight (since it may be a pallet?).

I've searched for this discussion in vain. Sorry if its out there and I'm repeating a thread.

    TIA.

hi guys, im new here. i live in the philippines and i have an online laptop store which targets local customers only. since this is the first time i've used zen cart and have no idea in setting up a website whatsoever, all i do is trial and error. i've been reading threads all over this forum, following instructions here and there. its good actually, coz im learning.. lol but of course, expect a bid of stupidity from a rookie.. hehe..

anyway, im almost done with my site. but was wondering if anyone could help make my life easier.

as far as being relevant to this thread's topic, i wanna know if its possible to create a shipping table that computes shipping rates for cities in my country. i guess one big factor for this is the shipping courier i will use, and that would be a local courier of course. can anybody please tell me what i'd really need to make this happen? your help is much appreciated.

Search for Region Tables 1.0.0 in the forums - this is probably the best product for you
Making sure we get the cost of freight back will drive us all mad at some stage.

Sounds like you may have accidentally loaded the code into the language directory ...

Go to the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ...

In the bottom input box, enter:
    class zonetable

how many files and where are they located have that line in them?

NOTE: copies of files or backups will also throw this error in the self loading module directories ...

I, too, want to ship to just the 48 states, alaska and hawaii, and canada. I have set up 3 zone definitions for each. I want to use the shipping module that is default in the zone rates. Is it possible to change the Zone 1 Countries to Zone 1 States for the 48 contiguous, Zone 2 countries to Zone 2 states for Hawaii and Alaska?

not to take away from this module but

Kauai i made a module that duplicates the table rate module, so you could use that 1 for continental us and one for the other states
