Default Meta keyword tags on product pages

    Hi,

I'm having a small issue with meta tag keywords on product pages (not category pages).

I can define my own keywords via Catalog > Categories/Products > Category by clicking on the button to define Meta Tag data for a specific product.
When I check the source code for a product page, Zen Cart has done this no problem but it's also added the CUSTOM_KEYWORDS which I set up in meta_tags.php. Thing is I don't want these CUSTOM_KEYWORDS appearing on product pages as they're not neccessarily relevant to the product in question.

Strangely, I don't have this problem when defining keywords for categories and subcategories. These pages only show the keywords I define via the Zen Cart admin and not the keywords from meta_tags.php

Does anyone know how I can get around this?

I'd remove the CUSTOM_KEYWORDS from meta_tags.php altogether if it weren't for the fact that the index page would then have no meta tag keywords!

    Thanks

(I think most would agree that meta tag keywords are all but ignored by Google these days but I'd like to get this right anyway!)

There is no purpose for meta keywords anymore... They are completely ignored by search Engines. Don't worry about them.

Oops, I see I can define keywords specifically for the homepage using HOME_PAGE_META_KEYWORDS in meta_tags.php. Sorted.

That's a bit of a generalisation! Google may not use them as a ranking factor but other SEs still do; granted on a minor level only. But disregarding keyword tags and leaving them entirely empty will potentially do more damage than good, especially considering how strict Google are on valid markup.
