Excluding certain states

How can i prevent customers who have an Alaska, Hawaii or PR (non contiguous) address from registering and purchasing..?

Is there a simple way or should i just turn on the drop down state list and use Lower 48 states?

Are you trying to prevent customers from shipping to the states other than the "lower 48". If so, you could define a zone (see http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1398) to provide that restriction. That way, a customer in Hawaii could still purchase and ship an order to his/her friend in Texas.

I hate to have a customer sign up and shop and then find out after placing items in cart and trying to check out... I would much rather they not even be able to register... Thanks for the feedback...
