Paypal Express/Account not being credited

Hi,

Here's the deal. Paypal express set up. Every necessary step taken. Developer account created with multiple working transactions. Go live and the sales show up as pending in the zencart backend but the paypal account shows no activity.

I'm just looking for a jumping off point for troubleshooting.

Thanks

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

  • Paypal Express mod installed and configured.
  • goDaddy Hosting
  • cURL Proxy set to 'true'
  • cURL Proxy address: proxy.shr.secureserver.net:3128
  • Only 'money order' and 'PP Express' are 'activated'
  • Many successful transactions in sandbox mode
  • Two 'live' orders made which show up on Zen Backend and look ready to go
  • Paypal Account showing no sign of transactions

I went through 3 different customer service agents at Paypal who knew nothing about PP Express then they gave me another number which threw me in a revolving ***** of menu options.

I don't have access to this guy's paypal so I'm kinda flying blind. I'd like to hear what are any thoughts on why this is happening and what is going to happen the orders that have been already made?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

  1. What do your debug logs contain?
  2. Do the missing transactions show up in the sandbox account you were using?

Thank you very much for answering but luckily (maybe) the problem fixed itself. It concerns me a bit at how random it was but these sales that took place were on the 14th and the 16th and they were not showing up at all in his paypal account for absolute sure.

This was brought to my attention on the 21st and I began trying to track it down on this site with no answer so I reluctantly called paypal on his behalf with very little help. I was told that he/the cart owner would have to call but one girl did ask me what his paypal address was but didn't go any further.

Fast forward to about 3 p.m. this afternoon and he emails me telling me he bought one of his own items, it went through fine and when he checked paypal the other transactions were there?

I saw a ton of paypal problems here but I didn't see this one so I hope it was a one in a million fluke because I had a knot in the back of my neck the size of a softball.

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

OK wow, I am experiencing the exact same problems. It was working fine before, but now the payments don't post on PayPal as if no payment was ever made.

ZC Admin shows the order, but when you look at order details, all the Payment info is blank. Frontend UI works fine from the customer perspective. They are taken to the expected "checkout success" page at the end.

I don't believe I made any changes to code/configurations -- the latest change was a SEO mod.. but I don't think that did any harm.

Any clues to where I can look? I'm looking through the debug logs, and I can't find any errors.
Is there a specific spot in the logs where I should pay special attention to?

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

OK digging a bit further into the debug logs..

I notice this during the step: Request Parameters: {SetExpressCheckout}

there's a param for: [AMT]
Shouldn't this be [OrderTotal] or something instead?

No, AMT is correct.

Define "before" ...

Which SEO mod? What happens if you turn it off?

OK maybe not "exact". Here's my case:

Customer adds item to cart
Clicks on Express Checkout for PayPal
Taken to PayPal login page. Login successfully.
Taken to Order Summary. Click Continue.
Taken back to ZC Step 2. Click Continue.
Taken to ZC Step 3. Click Confirm.
Taken to Order Checkout Success.

This was tested on Production (not Sandbox). Order shows up on ZC Admin, but all the payment info in the gray table is blank. Customer receives email confirming order from ZC. Funds do NOT show up on either buyer or seller's PayPal account (not even a transaction is recorded).. therefore no email from PayPal is ever sent out either.

It's as if there was a step missing/failed, but I'm not sure where/how to find the root cause.

Curl works fine, Non-SSL.
Hosting is on HostMonster.
ZC ver 1.3.7.1

"Before" was approx 1 month ago. I do not believe anything changed since then, and if so, it was the Simple SEO URL mod. Thus, for now, it's safe to assume all mods installed are not the cause. I already checked the URLs being sent to/from PayPal and they seem ok:

ReturnURL: /ipn_main_handler.php?type=ec
CancelURL: /login/ec_cancel/1

And user was taken to the checkout_success URL just fine, so I don't suspect the SEO mod to have affected this error.

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

I have a feeling it's failing on the following step on the PayPal API flow

DoExpressCheckoutPaymentRequest

Logs stop before this step happens (and it has done so in the past, when things were working fine).. so not sure how/where I can check to see if this is the cause.

Have you tried the same process on the newer 1.3.8 by any chance?

Everything in email seems correct. Correct Subtotal and Total and Shipping, correct Payment method "PayPal"

No, I have not tried in 1.3.8, but don't want to upgrade at this time since I know it worked not too long ago on 1.3.7

Any other ideas? Where should my starting point be in debugging? I've hit a stop point on the logs, so I'm not sure where's the next thing to check.

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

OK one interesting finding that may hint at what's wrong..
When I go under the ZC Admin UI to Customers > Orders
I pick an order in the past that I know was previously successful (before this bug happened)
I click on Edit

All the information in the gray box in the middle is now missing / empty except for the Invoice ID. I double checked the API signature credentials set under the Payment Module, and they are correct.

Any clue why I might be seeing this?

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

empower,
Just to let you know. I am getting the same thing. I am running 1.3.8a so that is not the problem.

I am just setting up my shop, but I had IPN (stills works) running and I went to EC because of PayPal's initial screen that the customer sees. That screen is very confusing if the customer wants to pay with a credit card. So, I went to paypal express because the screen is better (not great, but better).

I went to paypal's pages dealing with Custom Integration with Express Checkout. <https://www.paypal.com/IntegrationCenter/ic_expresscheckout.html> They talk about a 4 steps to Integrate Express Checkout. Checking the email returns from ec debug:log & email I believe that step 4 is missing: Step 4 "**Authorize or charge the customer".** it states "

T*he payment button on the Order Review page must submit the final API call, DoExpressCheckoutPayment, which completes the transaction. The button should say "Confirm Order", "Pay", or something similar.

If the DoExpressCheckoutPayment call is successful, display the final order details to your customer.*

The problem is I do not think we ever do Step 4.

The last log - email I get is titled:

ec_step2_finish - 1

Content is as follows:

START: paypal_ec_payer_info= Array
(
[payer_id] => R45RN7M8S8EUN
[payer_email] => [email protected]
[payer_salutation] =>
[payer_gender] =>
[payer_firstname] => Robert
[payer_lastname] => Wetter
[payer_business] =>
[payer_status] => unverified
[ship_country_code] => US
[ship_address_status] => None
[ship_phone] =>
)

Again I switched to IPN and it works but EC does not.

Does anyone have an idea?

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

Weird thing for my issue is, it was working fine beforehand, and all of a sudden it stopped working.. and I don't believe anything has changed, except possibly a URL rewrite that I did.. but I don't think that affected anything, because if it did, it would have made the WHOLE process broken instead of just the final step.

I agree with you, something happens in that it doesn't execute the final step for some reason. I've tried following my debug logs, and even going through the code myself and debugging it, but I haven't been able to find any clues to what's wrong.

Has it worked for you before?

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

Well,
About 30 minutes ago, I was still frustrated. Now I believe I see a light - Might be a train - but may be not.

Anyway
  1. yes it did work before - The question is before what? The answer is before my provider wiped my site completely. Now PayPal does not work correctly (until 30 mins ago)
  2. My answer to my problem - possible yours is in the ZC Payment Modules

Under PayPal Express Checkout (right side) you will see Configuration Instructions: There are 3 steps indicated. Step 3 states:
*

In your PayPal account, enable Instant Payment Notification:
under "Profile", select Instant Payment Notification Preferences

* click the checkbox to enable IPN
* if there is not already a URL specified, set the URL to:
  [url]http://yoursite/something/ipn_main_handler.php\[/url]
*

ZC gives you the correct URL.

When my site went dark it seems that this url changed when we reconfigured it. I had a backup of this and used the url from the backup. It looked very, very much the new one but was not the same. I correct this in paypal and as of now it "seems" to work.

I hope this is your problem.

Re: Paypal Express/Account not being credited

Unfortunately it's not what's wrong with my configuration. I've already checked all the settings, URLs, CURL, etc. and they all are fine.

My ipn_main_handler is pointing to: http://mysite.com/ipn_main_handler.php
It correctly grabs it in the beginning of the EC process (i have logs to prove that).

The whole process seems to fail after it redirects to checkout_process after the "termEC-10" step in paypalwpp.php
