Meta Keywrods Auto-generate for each category

HI, everyone,

Does anyone considered to change the default meta keywords for each product, which is genetated by default, that is:

prodcuct name+Title(which can be defined in meta_tags.php)+model+All the top categories+custom keywords(which can be defined in meta_tags.php)

Don't you think the above keywords is too long & useless?
maybe is better to remove the irrelative Top categories in the keywords.

Does anybody know how to remove?
any suggestion would be appreciated.

Don't you think the above keywords is too long & useless?Even though we can edit titlt/keywords/description manually through ADMIN, it is too long & useless.

So it is better to remove the irrelative Top categories in the keywords, then replaced with custom text respectively for each cagegory, for example:
to define keywords for category A: product name+custom text for category A
to define keywords for category B: product name+custom text for category B
..................

Does anybody know how to remove?
any suggestion would be appreciated.

It is best to use 10 or less keywords and phrases from the page. The top search engines no longer use this tag to rank your pages. The description is also not used for rank. Your time and effort will yield better results working on your title tags as these are used and are the most important on page factor for ranking.

Hi Melanie,.

Many appreciated for your suggestion.

I can not agree with you any more. however, could you please clarify how to put the 10 words or less of my page into meta title? of course not by aditing manually, but by generated auto

Thanks again.

Your keywords do not go in your title tag, and it isn't a Meta tag. See here what Danny Sullivan has to say about these head tags and how they should be formatted.

Then check this out if your really want to know what on page factors will and will not help you rank. This is the entire on page ranking factors from 37 of the top search marketers in the world.
http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors

Then see here where Google tells us flat out that the Meta description tag is NOT for ranking...
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/09/improve-snippets-with-meta-description.html

Why does Google care about meta descriptions?
We want snippets to accurately represent the web result. We frequently prefer to display meta descriptions of pages (when available) because it gives users a clear idea of the URL's content. This directs them to good results faster and reduces the click-and-backtrack behavior that frustrates visitors and inflates web traffic metrics. Keep in mind that meta descriptions comprised of long strings of keywords don't achieve this goal and are less likely to be displayed in place of a regular, non-meta description, snippet. And it's worth noting that while accurate meta descriptions can improve clickthrough, they won't affect your ranking within search results.

Here you can read in the Google support forum about how Google does not use the Meta Keyword tag http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=38ce60833e76d14c&hl=en

But... as you wish and there is no way to affect your Zen Cart titles without effort or creating great product names in the first place.

Re: Meta Keywrods Auto-generate for each category

hi, Melanie,

One more question need your suggestion.

for product page, it is possible to add its upper category into auto-generated keyowrds?

For example:
product keywords = product name+its upper category(that is the navBreadCrumb)

Any idea would be appreciated. thanks.:frusty:

Re: Meta Keywrods Auto-generate for each category

I have never dabbled the the keyword auto generation to begin to tell you how to change its functionality.

The biggest hurdle is changing the dynamic process for just the keywords as Zen Cart uses the same function to generate all.
