Frustrated!

My store has been running since May last year and sales are increasing month by month.

I am getting upto 200 unique hit per day now but I know that some of my competitors are getting between 800 and 2000 per day.

My aim is to hit 1000 per day.

Can anyone give me some advice as I am not technical and have been teaching myself SEO. I am really at a loss as to what to try next.

I am concentrating just on google for now and although I can get onto the first page for some products and one category my competitors appear on page 1 for nearly every search I do!

Is this as their sites are older?
Or is it because my store size is 28K and theirs are 68K so more content.
Or do they have their SEO set up better?

My site is https://www.fairytalefashions.co.uk

Thanks

Re: Frustrated!

Older can be a benefit as there has been more time to get ranked...
How much older?

What are some of the url's to them?

What search terms brings them up?
How are your descriptions aligned to these terms?

Re: Frustrated!

The main two are
https://www.A2z-kids.co.uk
https://www.blushfashions.com

They have been going maybe 2 - 3 yrs longer.
Search phrases are kids fancy dress, childrens costumes, kids costumes.

etc.

Thanks

Older trusted sites have an advantage in authority status.... This has nothing to do with PageRank score, but rather long term trusted theme orientated content. Quality and trusted inbound links and Google's own profiling for the site...

Size is not the issue so to speak... You want to rank well and raise your index score and trust rank, then you create new, fresh and unique content... Frequently. Basically, the trick here is to force Google to crawl more often by presenting new content every time they visit... Thus raising your index score and also taking advantage of Google's appetite for fresh content.

Additionally, get high quality relevant incoming links contain the link text for 3 or 4 phrases you wish to rank for. Directory submissions are ok, but good old fashioned link building cannot be overlooked. Use your 3 or 4 key phrases in varied links... Not all phrases in one link and not all links in one phrase.

Keep your content tight and highly relevant, avoiding broad content until you are ranking more efficiently.

Re: Frustrated!

Kobra,

Thanks for this information. Could you please explain what exactly this information means , whether this is the reason they are getting more hits and what would be the best method for me to use to get similar figures to these other websites.

Does this info show they have more contents and links or is it something else?

Thanks

Re: Frustrated!

Amount of indexed pages is a good estimate of the size of a site... But, not the only consideration.... For example

You have 335 indexed pages with the www in your urls.

Google says only 283 are unique, as the others have been omitted for being "very similar".

Pages like these
/index.php?currency=USD&main_page=featured_products&disp_order=3&page=
offer little or no value to Google's index as they are very duplicate in nature.

So you see how indexed pages can be a relative measurement?

Concentrate on your on page optimization and inbound links.

For example your main page.

  1. Your title is is very good!
  2. You have used this https://www.fairytalefashions.co.uk as an H1 tag... To better serve you use the H1 tags for a short and none spammy keyword phrase. It is the second most important on page factor... People searching for your domain name will certainly find you w/o wasting the H1 opportunity.
  3. In your first paragraph you have linked to categories, this is excellent... But... Weddings is not the link text I would use... Something like "Wedding Bridesmaid & Flowergirl Dresses". You can count on no one, at least give yourself a good inbound link text :D

Remember, every page unique and every page a hook in the water... Ignore none.

Re: Frustrated!

Drop https://www.fairytalefashions.co.uk in developers toolkit and search catalog.

I was pretty sure it was your greeting... or main page defined text, but after pulling the source I'm not so sure.

Re: Frustrated!

I am pleased to see my hard work is paying off over the last 2 years.:D
But it never stops.
By the way my site is www.blushfashions.com
and I could give exact unique visitors but won't.These sites that give you estimates are usually out of date anyway.

Finding a good title tag was a big help, although site was live for 3 months before I settled on one.
Title tags must also be relevant.no point including words that are not needed.
A whileback I noticed someone had copied my keywords literally word for word, funny thing was they included words for things they didn't actually sell!:P
My second site www.blushdance.co.uk is starting to achieve similar success in an even shorter timescale too, pleased to say.

Re: Frustrated!

Thanks for all your advice...I have been stuggling along on my own but have luckily found a reputable SEO consultant who is now going to help me....so hopefully things can only improve!

I think competition is good...as it keeps you on your toes. I have had words and ideas copied from my site too .....and I noticed quite recently that a popular girls dress site has had their photo competition idea copied too! So it is happening all around.....you just need to try and keep one step ahead.
