Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

Hi All,

Ok hoping someone can give me some advice on this. I submitted my site and sitemap sometime in October. Made some changes since then:

  1. changed my domain from https://www.mystore.com/hp_zencart to https://www.mystore.com

  2. had a redirect done from all my non www urls to my www urls.

  3. worked on my meta tags and keywords (to some extent)

  4. resubmitted a new sitemap just recently to google (as per the suggestion on a forum follower)

And the only index page I see when I enter one of my keywords (used kids clothes) is a reference to my site around page 20 when I posted a question on the zencart forum.

Questions:

How can I get rid of this link?

How can I up my chance of getting my actual urls (which google says I have 303 indexed) to show up?

Thanks for any feedback you can give me!!
Michele

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

You would not want to "get rid" of the link from this forum... Inbound links are very important to help your pages rank.

In fact, if you are having troubles getting re-indexed the BUILD MORE INBOUND LINKS :D

Seriously, build links... and correct your redirect.

Checked link: http://www.thrift4kids.com/hp_zencart/

Type of redirect: “meta refresh” redirect after 0 second

Redirected to: http://www.thrift4kids.com

Google needs a proper 301 redirect to pass the old page's rank, index score, pagerank and inbound links to the new urls.

They cannot follow this redirect properly... So if you leave it in place, you are essentially throwing away the old directory pages and starting brand new.

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

Can someone tell me if this is right? as per Melanie's suggestion I want to redirect all my https://www.thrift4kids.com/hp_zencart pages to my now https://www.thrift4kids.com and i wanted to make sure I had the code written correctly.

RedirectMatch 301 (.*) http://www.thrift4kids.com/

Also, tutorial states the following:

The .htaccess file would now be uploaded to the same location where you uploaded the index page to your OLD domain that you are redirecting from

To clarify, does this mean I upload the .htaccess file I've created to the root directly of my old shop, https://www.thrift4kids.com/hp_zencart?

Thanks!

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

In addition, once i delete my old files under www.mystore/hp_zencart (since I moved all my files to my root when i changed it to www.mystore/ will it have any negative impact on my indexed pages with Google

thanks!

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

This should work ok

RedirectMatch 301 (.*) http://www.thrift4kids.com/
This type of redirect does go in the old folder hp_zencart
You needn't have anything but the .htaccess and an empty index.html in the old folder to prevent browsing.

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

Thanks Melanie! Just 1 more quick question (hopefully ).

I uploaded the file, which saved as **.htaccess.txt **to my old directory.

However, when I type in my old store in the URL i get the same message:

'If our page does not load in 5 secs, please 'click here'

Is that ok?

Re: Zencart forum thread is being indexed!

thanks for the tip! it worked! (well atleast i think it did, it's going directly to the url i want with out getting the message- 'if you don't see our site in 5 sec, please click here'

the only thing I had to change (just in case anyone may be having the same issue) was the following:

I couldn't rename the file- kept getting message 'you must type a file name'

so i just opened my Notepad, typed in the info in there and renamed THAT file to .htaccess (from .htaccess.txt) and uploaded and it worked!

Thank you all for your help
