Google-Indexing-Ranking- OH MY!

Hi All (1.3.7 Version User here)

Maybe someone can be kind enough to shed some light on my particular situation. I keep getting discrepancies on how many pages Google has indexed for my site.

Initially it said 303. Although I just learned that 260 of them are 404(not found). Almost all are pop-up images.

And on https://www.websitegrader.com it says I only have 1 page indexed! I'm don't understand the difference in information...am i missing something? Should I just call it a day a feel fortunate that even one of my pages are getting indexed?

By the way, if anyone has that link on how to create a robot.txt file to prevent my images popups from getting indexed, I would appreciate it. I can't find it now...I believe it involves creating this file and uploading to my server, possibly my images folder- does that sound right?

Thanks!

Are you using google webmaster tools? there is a function to create robot.txt files and monitor your index. pete

Re: Google-Indexing-Ranking- OH MY!

thanks for the tip, pete!

and thanks for checking barco57! I think I see what the problem is...maybe someone can give me some direction on how to fix it.

as you stated, when i type in site:thrift4kids.com 715 indexed pages are shown. (also, it looks like most of these are pages the google indexed when i first submitted my site and all my pages where being redirected to https://www.thrift4kids.com/hp_zencart)

but when i type in site:www.thrift4kids.com- only 1 page is indexed.

right now I have 301 Redirect set up that all non www urls are direct to my www url. This looks like it's hurting me more than helping me. Am i right in say that? And if so, does anyone know how I would fix it?

It's a bit frustrating, seems like a put so much work to change everything to direct to the correct url and it's backfired.
thanks!

If you do 301 redirection, it will take a while. Dont worry about it too much. That is the reason why when you start a new site you should pick up a url "style" you want and then stick with it all the way through.
