Question?

I see one of my post was moved to this security thread and my other one similar for the 1.3.9D file changes was deleted. Did I do something wrong? Was it not okay to help zenners make updated file changes easier?

Thanks,
Charles

Re: Question?

I haven't seen the posts so I can only speculate.

The development team (and probably most of the community) prefers that updates to add-on modules be posted in the free downloads area, where some level of screening can take place to ensure that they comply with licensing requirements as well as making them easy to find.

Unofficial packages that mimic the official releases of the core code, in part or in full, will almost certainly be removed. Or links to them obfuscated if they're hosted off-site (which is worse).

The official releases are carefully tested before release to protect the community, whereas the quality of unofficial releases is unknown, especially where they are hosted off-site, a ruse sometimes undertaken by those wishing to insert malignant code (though I'm sure that wasn't your intention).

Re: Question?

Thanks kuroi,

They are just the files from the release in it's proper folder so another user would be able to update their site without having to search through all the folders and docs to find the change files. Just make life easier. Your explanation does make sense. I just wish someone pm me why it was moved, that's all. Just trying to contribute to the zen community.

Thanks,
Charles

Re: Question?

Charles,

kuroi is correct. Your post was flagged as containing links to an unofficial release of Zen Cart files, and deactivated.
In addition to the quality control suggestions kuroi mentioned, we also don't want to set precedent at encouraging unofficial packages, since it simply creates confusion. Can you imagine the complication of trying to provide support to people and guiding them in the official upgrade procedure, only to find out days later that they were really using an unofficial zip that they figured they could use as a shortcut, and discovered that it was causing them problems? Or that they actually needed several unofficial zips to get the whole package? ie: what if they used an unofficial zip for 1.3.9b and then skipped "c" and then used only the 1.3.9d unofficial zip? Then they'd be missing important files from "c" and would think they were safe cuz it says "d" on the cover.

That said, your desire to contribute to the community is appreciated. Please just don't do it that way
