PAYPAL : 10736 Shipping Address Invalid :: Force acceptance ?

I run a very large store and have noticed a few patterns with 10736 errors.

Paypal is extremely strict with their address definitions. We have encountered numerous failed orders (220+ in the last week) where customers have the correct address, but they are not correct enough for paypal.

example with city:

customer enters: sandiego
paypal expects: san diego

example with address:

customer enters: somewhere street 100
paypal expects: 100 somewhere street

the examples result in 10736 errors and lost sales.

Would it be possible to Not send the address information to paypal ?
override the addresses with paypal address values ?
force paypal accept the order ?

10736 - Shipping Address Invalid City State Postal Code - A match of the
Shipping Address City, State, and Postal Code failed.

If you were to alter the code to submit without address details, or try to "force" PayPal in some way, then you will lose your seller protection for that transaction.

Not sure how it is accomplished, but some apparently grab the address from paypal so there is no mis match.

Yeah, my thought it should be a configurable option to use the paypal stored addresses as default. or as an option if the zencart address failed.

personaly: We only ship once payment is confirmed and only to confirmed paypal addresses.

If the customer is using Express Checkout and starts via the EC Shortcut on the shopping cart page, then they select their address on the PayPal side, and then the address details are correct.
If the customer chooses PayPal as an alternate payment method on the payment selection screen, then the address they've entered in your store will be what's submitted to PayPal.

If the customer is using Website Payments Pro, then you've got no way to let them select their PayPal address, let alone a "confirmed" address, since they never see PayPal during that checkout.

Note: the sale isn't entirely rejected: the customer is told the error and asked to fix their address. Once they do that, they can submit the transaction and it will complete properly.

We are using verion 1.3.9e with FEC and in our case the customer is not told anything. After pressing continue, they are simply returned to our site for no apparent reason. So again they click continue. Some customer repeat this as much as 10 times. And for each we receive that email alert: "ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error (10736)".
I added a note on that final page just prior to going to Paypal that states that if they should be repeatedly return to this page that their address is likely wrong. But no one reads it and they just continue to hit "Continue". What is needed is some sort of clear alert that their address is wrong.
I looked through versions f,g&h and did not see where this has been specifically addressed so I assume it is still an issue. :frusty:

Is there a fix coming?
I hesitate to add a fix myself as then it makes future version updates more difficult to deal with. In fact, I have made such changes and as a result I have not updated from rev E, for this exact reason.

Sounds like this might be a 3rd party module "FEC" issue

Are you saying that with the base Zen Cart, that a message is displayed? Can you point me to where in the code this would be generated?

No I stated that it looks to be an issue with the 3rd party FEC module

Re: PAYPAL : 10736 Shipping Address Invalid :: Force acceptance ?

I get an admin alert email generated by ZC which contains the following message:

"ALERT: PayPal Express Checkout Error (10736)
10736 Shipping Address Invalid City State Postal Code - A match of the Shipping Address City, State, and Postal Code failed"

I wish there was a way to retrieve the name, email, phone number of the customer so I could followup with him/her.

BTW... what does FEC mean? I assume the EC part means Express Checkout. Don't know what the "F" means.

You can view the PayPal logs, which contain the customer details, if you turn on the logging: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61199

FEC is a reference to an addon "fast and easy checkout", which makes significant alterations to the normal checkout behavior.
