How to prevent using both a coupon AND gift cert on one order?

I have had a few issues with the Gift Cert lately, and one big problem is that the cart is allowing customers to redeem a coupon when redeeming a gift certificate!..URG!

Any help would be appreciated.

Why would you want to prevent using Gift Certificates and Discount Coupons on the same order?

Gift Certificates are like cash and Discount Coupons are a reduction of the price by amount, percentage or for free shipping ... they are not related to one another ...

If Grandma buys a $100.00 Gift Certificate and sends $50.00 to Tiny Tim, why can't he use both the $50.00 Gift Certificate and the 10% Discount Coupon that he got at the same time on an order for his new crutch? This is $50.00 cash for the Gift Certificate and the 10% Discount Coupon ... so it is the same as using a regular payment plus the 10% Discount Coupon ...
