10% discount on all / on selected products

I've read lots on this but can't figure out how to do it.

How would I create a code to send to people which they can then use in the shop? I can't find a discount / code/voucher module. I can see 'Gift/certificates/coupons' in the admin but it says it's not installed. How do I install it?

Once I have this working can I then have it so the discount only works on some products.

If Gift Certificates and/or Discount Coupon aren't installed in Admin - Modules - Order Total (red dot) there should be an Install button on the right when you select them.

I want to say 'use this discount code xxxxxx to get 10% off'?

That would be the Discount Coupon. Create the coupon in Admin - Gift Certificate / Coupons - Coupon Admin, Confirm it, then select it from the list and click on Restrictions to limit it to certain categories or products.
