Cost and Profit?

I have searched and searched for several YEARS in the software add on section and in the forum for something that will allow you to input your product cost for each item when you add it to the store and that will then calculate your profit on that item when it sells, providing profit totals in various types of sales reports.

Surely this should be a basic feature of any store. Hopefully such a thing exists somewhere. If so, please tell me where to find it.

Thanks!

Re: Cost and Profit?

Is that the only option out there?

For various reasons that will not work for me, but thanks for the info.

Cost of Goods and Profit Margin on each sale should be a basic aspect of ANY store in my view. I am amazed that it has been ignored all these years.

Re: Cost and Profit?

The nice thing about open source is that anybody can write code and create add-ons for it. You're free to do so.

Re: Cost and Profit?

I would if I could.........but that is well beyond my abilities.

Still amazed that there is no cost of goods / profit calculator built in to ZenCart. That is as fundamental as any aspect of selling things. To have to go back in after the fact and hand enter your cost and calculate your profit seems so counter productive when it could all be automated.

I am betting that at least 90% if not all ZenCart users would like to be able to input the cost of goods and have a total profit generated automatically with each sale.

Re: Cost and Profit?

Those that would like that ability are probably using the mod I linked.

Re: Cost and Profit?

Based on the number of times that Addons has been downloaded, I'd say the demand is more like 1% of all Zen Cart users. There hasn't been a large demand for that functionality either.

I don't believe the number of times it was downloaded is even remotely related to the demand. That module is pretty useless which is more likely the real reason nobody downloads it.

The list of issues stopped me from even trying it out.

===KNOWN ISSUES===
*Products Price (Gross) does not update when you tab through everything for some reason.
*Gross Margin $, Gross Margin % are not updated until you tab through them.
*When an item is deleted, it shows up as cost $0.00 and selling price $0.00
*If an item's cost is updated, it is reflected for ALL sales. Should only be reflected for sales from now on. Easy way to get around this is to duplicate the product who's cost fell, and deactivate the old one (don't delete)

Plus, No reports - what good is a cost of goods field if you can't generate reports by month / week / year etc.?

Surely virtually EVERY store owner would want to be able to click a button and see how much money they actually MADE that day or week or month without having to look up the cost of thousands of items and figure that out by hand.

I suppose if you have 10% profit in everything you sell then you might not want or need something like that but not every store has a fixed profit margin.

How do you calculate your profit on sales? Wouldn't it be ever so much better if you didn't have to find the cost of each item sold and do that manually?

Re: Cost and Profit?

While having some basic numbers would be a good thing, calculating your profit and loss is what a bookkeeping program is for.

Thank you for your input. We will consider something for v2.0.
