Automatic Gift Certificate when signing up

I have read through these forums and could not find the answer I was looking for.

I am trying to find a way to automatically give new users $5 when signing up to my site. I know you can put discount code and such in welcome email, but I want it done automatically so they dont need to redeem the code.

Let me know if this is possible. thanks

Are your referring to this feature?

Admin > Configuration > GV Coupons

edit New Signup Gift Voucher Amount

Or do you want to automatically deduct $5 from their first order - on a once-only basis?

If the latter is your objective, it would require some customised coding.

Yes I was looking for automatically add to their account so they have it available instead of redeeming it. It does sound like complicated coding to get that working unless someone knows a trick. thanks for the reply
