Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Not for nothing, but Tim Kroger hasn't been involved with this module for MANY years now.. Last couple of updates have been submitted/written by other members of the community.. Currently there is no one specific author/owner of this module which is based on Tim's original submission. (Meaning that subsequent releases have made minor improvements to the original module that Tim submitted)

As for the bug you are reporting, IF this is in fact a genuine bug, and IF someone (including you if you so desire) decides it's important enough to fix a bug that only affects what is a fairly new browser (Chrome), and THEN decides to submit a new version of this module to the downloads section, then the bug will be addressed..

Until then, modules are volunteer (AKA unpaid) contributions by the community.. So while it's good to report possible bugs back to the community, specific requests for fixes to those bugs is kinda considered bad form.. (FYI..):blush:

I am not getting a hover image at all when putting my mouse over products, the hover image only comes up when my mouse is over a category image.Asked and answered several few times in this support thread.. The module's hover feature ONLY applies to category images, NOT the main product image.. Previous attempts to add the ability to hover over the main product image have proven to interfere with lightbox modules which is (I suspect) why it has not been included.. If you wanna search through this thread someone who thought this feature was important posted a solution for adding it.. PLEASE know that if you use the method I am refering to that it WILL INTERFERE with any lightbox contribution you might wanna implement..

gee38l:

Thanks for the info and i usually install mods myself manually by going through each folder and uploading?

IS there anything else i can do to prevent this?

What I do in all of my image & temp folders is to place a .htaccess file with the following info:

# Prevent directory viewing and the ability of any scripts to run.
# No type of script, be it PHP, PERL or whatever, can normally be executed if ExecCGI is disabled.
OPTIONS -Indexes -ExecCGI

This should keep any executable file(s) from being processed.

i add an index.htm file to keep prying eyes out...in it i place the link to the main page and tell them to contact the admin if they think it is a mistake

The other option is to put in a commercial request for the work and pay for the fix. There is a commercial forum here for those kinds of requests, or you can check out sites like Renta-A-Coder..

Not to be a nag or the detail police, but this is all off topic for this support thread.. The OP has appropriately taken his questions to new threads..

Just want to explain it a little bit better to make sure I haven't missed a setting. I would like an image to display on mouseover on the product listing page exactly like JokerMOde in post #4815 but currently it is only displaying for category images. Currently I have category images at full size so the mouseover is useless for me there but the product images on the listing page are very small so I would like the full sized image to display on mouseover to save the customer time clicking on the product to see a larger image.

do you mean like when you click the "new listing or the all listing links"?

I am not sure why you have those at full size---if i misunderstood sorry, but the viewer will see the same size image as what is displayed in the hover window...as far as I have seen.

go into admn and make your promo images a little larger

now that said this is from the read me that comes with image handler. I am not telling you to do this for it might screw things up if not done right but tis something to look at:

The source of the "Optional Extras" files comes from this thread here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=753368&postcount=4034

The documentation for these files seems to indicate that they provide the following functionality:

  • Allowing zoom behavior on medium images as well as small.
  • Disabling stock ZenCart "larger image" popup behavior on medium images that already have ImageHandler zoom behavior applied.
  • Disabling zoom and "larger image" popup behavior on default (no_picture.gif) product images.
More details about these "Optional Extras" files to follow. However, there are two notes of caution for those who opt to use these "Optional Extras" with IH2:
  1. DO NOT directly upload the Zen Cart core files in "Optional Extras". Instead do a compare and merge them into your Zen Cart core files or you will undo your previous changes.
  2. Let me state unequivocally that these "Optional Extras" files will break the functionality of the Zen Lightbox and Fual Slimbox mods.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Hi

I have used image handler for some years now and it is great, however it is only today that I have taken the 'next step' and added additional images to one or two my products through the IH management area and I am experiencing a weird problem:

I have added 10 additional images to a product, each one being added as a seperate default image file. These images show up fine in the product listing BUT when I hover over each image, 8 out of the 10 give a pop up of a different image. The different image is certainly one of the ten additional images but not the same as the image I am hovering over. With me so far?

A further observation is that in the IH management area if I click 'large image' below the additional image I have just loaded I also get a pop up of another image.

Doh! this is a really strange situation and I a wondered if anybody else has had this problem and if so what the possible reasons/cure could be.

Many thanks

Rob

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

@robsnowden:

i did the same thing by accident. what you might have done is hit the edit button instead of the new file button.

edit button will let you change the image totally to a new one or add a different one to the existing image thus the result you have.

new file button is what you hit to add each image individually to the listing of that product.

you can either delete the images and redo them or edit the ones that are messed up by working out of two windows---one to view the images and one with ih2 to edit/delete

@onlygrace:

are you talking about the main little image or the additional ones.

if additional images then make certain the main one is the same type you use for the additional ones....jpg with jpgs, png with png's, gif's with gif's.

the instructions claim it is not needed but it really is needed to do it that way.

if you mean the main image...did they show up before you installed ih2?

the instructions claim it is not needed but it really is needed to do it that way.You are either mis-representing or have a complete misunderstanding what the readme ACTUALLY says about additional images

IH2 purports that you can add any valid format (.jpg, .gif, or .png) to any main image or additional product images. This is only a half-truth.

IH2 will not complain and add any valid image format to a product even if the new image is in a different format than the main product image (jpg vs. png, for example).

However, Zen Cart will not see this additional image because the file format of the new image does not match that of the main product image.

**Zen Cart will only recognize and display product images that have the exact same file format as the main product image. For Zen Cart, the additional product images have to follow a certain pattern that includes the file extension. **

In order to correct this anomaly, an optional modification to the Zen Cart naming convention may be offered in a future IH2 release.

If I understand you correctly, are you saying that the product listings on the main index page, whats new page, & featured page display the product images okay, but the product detail page does not display the main product image.

In the meantime, please try turning off IH2 and see if the main product image on the product detail page reappears.

Also here's some additional things to consider when troubleshooting this:

  • What other mods have you installed??
  • Have any of those mods made changes to or affect the product detail files??
  • Does the main product image on the product detail page not appear for ALL products or just certain products??
  • Did the main product images on the product detail page work BEFORE installing IH2?

DarkAngel:

are you talking about the main little image or the additional ones.
Seems evident by the screenprint that the OP is referring to the main product image on the product detail page..

*For those who aren't sure what is meant by a product listing page, this means:
*

  • New products page
  • Featured products page
  • All products page
  • *Specials page *
  • All the product listings which appear on the main index page (new products, specials, featured)
The images displayed on the product listing pages are your stores small images. The hover (when turned on) displays the medium image in the hover. To get this effect, in the Admin > Images, turn on hover for small images, and adjust your medium sized images to your desired settings. You should then see the same effect as the example you provided.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

DarkAngel,

I have category images full sized, not product images. While I have full sized category images it's pointless for me to have an image the same size pop up on mouse over. When looking at the product listing page within a category for example: Catagory A -> Catagory B -> Products, no images are popping up on mouseover. Product images are about 100x80 so as you can imagine I really need bigger images on mouseover so that customers don't have to click products just to view an image, they can keep browsing instead.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

You are (IMHO) GROSSLY understating the effect of these changes.. It's not simply a matter of "doing it right". These particular suggested changes will **NOT WORK **for anyone who is using a lightbox contribution.. This is important since lightbox contributions are being used by lots of store owners.. The changes outlined in the post you referenced will BREAK these modules..

This is a HUGE reason why the "Optional Extras" code was removed from the current version of Image Handler 2.. IMO that entire "Optional Extras" code should have been submitted as a SEPARATE contribution with a responsibly written readme which outlines the issues with using these particular modifications in conjunction with a lightbox module.

DarkAngel:

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Maybe this will help clarify what image sizes correspond to specific images seen throughout Zen Cart. I'm posting this information based on how I've configured these settings for other stores. **

Medium Images**

Product Info - Image Width
Product Info - Image HeightMedium images are the image seen on the product detail pages, and in IH2 this is the size of the image when hovered in a product listing.

Category Images

Subcategory Image Width
Subcategory Image HeightThis is the image size I have always adjusted when I needed to set the category image size. Not sure how the "Top Subcategory" image is support to work since it has never done for me what it's says it's supposed to do.. I may have to do some more testing with this and report back.

Large Product Image

IH large image maximum width
IH large image maximum heightIn IH2 you can explicitly state the size limits of the large image.

All Product Listing Images

Image - Product Listing Width
Image - Product Listing Height

Image - Product New Listing Width
Image - Product New Listing Height

Image - New Products Width
Image - New Products Height

Image - Featured Products Width
Image - Featured Products Height

Image - Product All Listing Width
Image - Product All Listing Height
