re: development road map / dimensions per attribute

Hi Dr Byte & dev team ,

i have gone down this road many times and really no one wants to take on the coding from a customization development standpoint so i am looking to the dev team to comment on this again

With the 1.4 roadmap set which includes stock for attributes i am wondering about the possibility of including dimensional support for attributes in the roadmap. Because several shipping modules rely on cubed weight (dimensions) of the product to calculate accurate shipping it is really difficult to get accurate shipping quotes using the current attribute structure.

The scenario is that for product A there are multiple sizes (attribute) which need to feed the dimensions to the shipping module - in the same way that you can set a variable weight by attribute

My clients use the Canada Post module but i know of other shipping methods that use cubed weight as well

In any case that is my 2 cents and hopefully you will see the value of this

* A - 6.75x7 inches (17x18 cm)
* B - 4.75x11.75 inches (12x30 cm)
* C - 7x13.75 inches (18x35 cm)
* D - 4.75x21.5 inches (12x55 cm)
* E - 6x31.5 inches (15x80 cm)

The current roadmap doesn't include dimensional support for products or attributes. As you have discovered it is not an easy thing to do. Pehaps in the future when all of the really basic functionality has been addressed we will look at it.
