How big/heavy is your site?

Hi all,

As part of setting up your store, I would recommend using:

http://www.websiteoptimization.com

This measures the speed performance of your site and recommends ways to increase speed. I did this to my site and got these results:

14.4K 257.69 seconds
28.8K 129.05 seconds
33.6K 110.67 seconds
56K 66.56 seconds
ISDN 128K 20.66 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 2.16 seconds

There is alot more to the results that you receive and it's all free and instant. My report tells me that I have to reduce the size/weight of my images as they are slowing my site down alot. It's a great tool, try it.

Merlin...what would you recommend download times should be for 56k connection?

Thanks
Pete

Re: How big/heavy is your site?

You pages should be under 100k for good results and under 50k total for the best results.

Example- The index page of zen-cart.com is 57747 bytes, just over 56k total.

Re: How big/heavy is your site?

Is that a realistic target though for a shop, what with the product images etc...all the image optimization in the world wouldn't get you below 100k surely? Would be interested to see what people out there have achieved.

Re: How big/heavy is your site?

Point taken...I noticed you designed the site, very good design. My site is currently at 329k, mostly my header_bg image, hoing to reduce that tomorrow. Anyone else got an example?

Re: How big/heavy is your site?

Some of the results are quite impossible to get. How can you get your CSS to be below 8k? Stylesheet alone is over 10k already! By the way...mine is around 225-250k.

Re: How big/heavy is your site?

White spaces? Wouldn't deleting them make the site look crowded since all the sideboxes etc. would be too close to each other?
