new sideboxes don't show

I don't seem to be able to get new sideboxes to appear. I have installed blank_sidebox as instructed, and now set up special to appear in left column. I set up a special, on the assumption that it would only appear if there was some, and no luck. I have setup in Layout Boxes controller as for those which do appear. What am I missing?

Wait! - now my sidebox-speciials is showing up in the centre column. How is the limit set to the number of sideboxes in a column?

what did you use to create these "new sideboxes"???

Sorry. Misleading talk. I mean by that simply sideboxes that I did not have showing. Where I began with the default and turned off what I did not want, I now don't seem to be able to change. Can't get 'blank_sidebox' to show, nor 'specials'. I'm sure it is something I am overlooking.

I don't want to restore defaults as it is a live site.

Do you have an URL that we could peek at?
