MultiSite Module Support Thread

I get the same thing when I use the link directly.

I created the subdomain2 only for this testing purpose so there's nothing in the file structure but an empty cgi-bin folder. would that have anything to do with the problem?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I don't think you set up your sub2 to point to sub1.

Take a look at my earlier post here and set up your sub2's directory root to sub1. When finished, I believe it should work.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

YAYYY!!! That did it! Thank You! You made my day. Now I can move on.:clap:

So when I add this mod to the live site, sub-domains won't be used. Each store will have its own domain name. All I have to do is point each domain name to the same server as the main domain, right? And of course configure the files.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Well, it's a bit different with domains. If you go with different domain names, you'll need to change your DNS settings of the second site to point to your main site. I'm not that good with that part of this module. I think that all you need to do is change your DNS settings for the second domain, but if not, try contacting fotofx, maybe he can help you.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Thanks balihr

I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

What I'm seeing now is for the second site, the partners/site_links sidebox won't show up. I switched to the site2 template and configured the boxes. The site_links box is activated but won't show in the left or right column. The sort order number is not conflicting with any of the other boxes.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I turned off all sideboxes one at a time, refreshing the site each time. The site_links sidebox didn't show up.

I reset the sideboxes and the site_links box didn't show up.

I'm using the same template as on the main site, though I did rename the template folders.

The site_links box does show up on the main site.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I'm not using that sidebox, but...
It's an addon, right? Did you install it twice, once for each template? Try that.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

It's a part of the multi-site mod. It doesn't have to be used but it allows for cross site carts.

It's step six here

http://www.medea.co.uk/dev/multisite_instructions_0.4.html

The file

includes/modules/sideboxes/site_links.php

is the file where store links get added

The file isn't in an override folder so I don't understand why it's not being picked up by the second site.

I tried as you suggested and placed a copy of the file in an override folder and that didn't do it.

I'm still looking to see if there's an answer out there somewhere.

Maybe you already checked this but is worth asking... did you add the link to the box? I mean, did you add them both and the links and names are correct? Maybe a colon out of place or a missing apostrophe?

Well worth asking ideasgirl. Thank you. That was the problem.

I had only one link in there and expected to see it on both sites.

Now I see that which ever site I'm on, the corresponding link doesn't show.

:P Yeah! Sometimes we fail to check the most "obvious" places.

Now I see that which ever site I'm on, the corresponding link doesn't show.
You mean... DOES SHOW, right?

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

hhmmm.....it is showing.

What I meant to say is, if I'm on site one, then site two link shows in the side box.

if I'm on site two, then site one link shows in the side box.

Site one link doesn't show in the sidebox on site one. Site two link doesn't show in the sidebox on site two.

Anyway it's working LOL

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

I've been reading through the thread and so far haven't come across a solution to my new problem which is with the cart.

The site links are supposed to enable cross site cart but it's not working.

I put something in the cart and then go to the second site and the item isn't brought along in the cart because the cart on the second site is empty. When I go back to the first site the item is still in the cart.

Cross selling is for products/categories not for shopper carts

Products/categories can be included/excluded in each shop NOT in customer carts as I understand

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Kobra, the multisite mod actually does allow for cross selling to take place across the various linked sites.

buildingblocks, this only works if you move between the sites by clicking on the linked site in the partners sidebox.

You can see this working on** www dot opticsonline dot co dot za**, Add something to your cart, click on a partner site in the lefthand sidebox and the product will be carried over.

It's not working for me that way.

I add an item to the cart on site1, click on the link in the partner sidebox and when site2 loads, the cart (I enabled to always show in the sidebox) is empty. I click on the [more] link just to be sure and yes the cart is empty.

The item in the cart from site1 is not carrying over in the cart to site2.

I did the reverse and added an item to the cart on site2 and went to site1 and the same thing happens.

Re: MultiSite Module Support Thread

Ok I found the problem.

To allow cross site cart we need to add our site links to the file site_links.php which I did, but I didn't realize the zenid is also needed at the end of my site links. I added the zenid and the cart brings the item along when going to another store.

You don't have to add that, it is generated automatically (it is different for every session and every person). Check your configurations, there should be something wrong. Or maybe on that same file of site_links check if you deleted something by error while fixing the other issue (a comma, an apostrophe, etc.) or maybe get a new clean copy to add your links again.
