Additional customer fields

I have searched the wish list and I am surprised that this is not here (or it is and I am just blind!)

Anyway, we would love for there to be an additional/optional fields for the customer registration/ account edit page that can be modified by the shop owner either partly or, hopefully, wholly via the admin area. I know you are thinking this is a big job, boy do I know it. I have tried the module on the downloads section that is now no longer supported and it is so confusing that I lost sleep over it.

Then I thought I would be really cleaver and try to modify another module to suit my needs - well that was just a sad sad day!:(

So this is my proposal can we have a system similar to the attributes area where you can set the option names/ values set whether they are required or not, set if they are a drop down menu/check box/radio button/text box.

For my shop we are moving more into wholesale and we want to make sure we are selling to legitimate businesses, so we want to know a little more about them i.e. what type of business, their target market and estimated gross sales.

I know I am not the only person out there that would love a core zencart solution for individual customization of the customer registration.

Please help me I am going crazy over this - if I had the ability I would do it myself but I have to admit when I need help and this is one of those moments.

Re: Additional customer fields

I'm interested as well. A simple 'title' field, for example, so one could register as:

Doctor Indiana Jones, instead of just FirstName LastName.

Re: Additional customer fields

This is the mod referred to in post 1, and has given many users headaches. It has apparently worked for others... see the support thread.

That module is a bad headache and the author of the module is no longer supporting it. It is very difficult to implement and even if the instructions were clear it is not a module that a novice can implement.

That is why I am suggesting that the zencart team come up with a optional filed system that is activated in the admin and works similar to the attributes area. Where someone can choose the questions, values (if a radio/checkbox/dropdown). There are a lot of different shops out there that are using this wonderful zencart system, but not everyone has the same requirements and it would be good to have some flexibility.

Re: Additional customer fields

My client needs this feature as well. One thing she wants that seems to be a standard elsewhere is a radio button list of choices answering that age-old question, "How did you hear about us?" -- This is a field that wouldn't belong anywhere other than during the sign-up process. Also, after the phone number entry, she wants to add a field that asks, "Best time to phone?"

Specific to my client's business that she wants in the sign-up process are things like, "I am an educator" "I am a parent" in checkbox format, and a few things like that.

This is very frustrating for us, because we need this information, and we're missing that golden opportunity at sign-up when it would take the user only a moment to check a box, rather than what we may have to do, which is to bother them with an email asking for the info, and then manually compile the responses from those who do bother to respond.

It is a huge drawback to us that we cannot add custom fields to the sign up process.

Thanks for your time reading this,
K Kramer

Re: Additional customer fields

Yes I agree it is frustrating at times the limitations. I know there are a lot of things out there for the zencart team and you all do a fantastic job. Hey we wouldn't even be here if the zencart wasn't working for us. Is there anyway the zencart team can have this ability available in the next update? I know it is a lot to ask but as evident by this thread there are people out there that would like to customize the account registration process.

Thank you for your time.

No, it will not be available in the next release.

Re: Additional customer fields

That is a shame. Well does anyone know of a step by step instructions to add some manually. By the way don't suggest the module in the downloads of "additional customer fields" because it doesn't work.

Thanks and hopefully this idea of having optional fields maybe possible in a future release.

Thanks again

You can find an add on for "how did you hear..." in the downloads section

Re: Additional customer fields

And you can probably use the code in that as a good guide for adding the other fields you are looking for. It would still require PHP knowledge, but you wouldn't have to figure it all out yourself.
