Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

I installed your template and have successfully completed it. I am confused when I checked your sample on your site, how did you setup your page products, specials, featured, to show only 1 or 2 rows of product verses my store showing 5 rows of products?

Example: http://www.720moto.com/Store/

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rudy

briansok:

Hi I made a change to the side column widths and changed all the places specified in your readme instructions and now everything in the sideboxes does not line up properly. Everything seems to be pushed to the left too far. For example the Category heading now extends to the left beyond the grey sidebox. I am on 1.3.8 and my site is https://www.toyspastandpresent.com. Any idea what I did wrong?

thanks

It looks like you did not change the left column width to 185px in the admin, as per the readme. Are you also wanting to change the right column width?

I only have 4 products on the test site, and on the featured page, only two, so I'm not sure what you mean. You can change settings under "Configuration", "Maximum Values", if you want to change the number that show per page.

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

Lovely:

Thanks, country charm. I added the define to the header.php.

But, I don't know how to do the tpl header. Where do I put the http:// link to my blog?

I'm afraid to mess with the php 'cause I know nothing about it.

I tried that and it places another nav bar below -- which would be fine if I had more than one page link there.

Don't use PHP, just make the link like any other link:

<li><a href="http://link-here.htm">Link Title Here</a></li>

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

Another question, since I installed the flyout menu the "home" and "login" links are on the top right of the page. How do I remove them? Also, the search bar is in the middle of the header and I would like to have it back on the right side of the header. Can you point me in the right direction?

thanks

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

Great Template , Just starting to customize it for a few projects... BUT

Does anyone else see the whole page refresh , and kind of close then open again when moving between pages, it does not happen when using FF just IE.

I'm pretty sure its not a Zen issue as my other zen sites on the same server don't seem to do this, and while I'm not blaming this template , as the fault probably lies with IE, but,
Does anyone any ideas what causes this issue , and if there is a workaround I could employ.

Thanks everyone

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

Hi!

If a customer goes to print a product page (File > Print) there is a problem, depending on whether they are using FF or IE.

in FF it seems the first page printed contains just the header and Page 2-- contains the page.

In IE the pages seem to printed all on top of one another.

You can see what I mean in these images:

Internet Explorer

Firefox Page 1

Firefox Page 2

Any idea on how to make the product screens print correctly from the start on all browsers?

Thanks
Ernie

I haven't implemented a print_stylesheet.css for my templates, so you can do this yourself. Basically, I would copy the main stylesheet for cherry zen, remove all of the images, basic things up a bit, but keep most of the main formatting css. Perhaps I will also add this to my next version.

Yes it does , the screen disappears to your background blue , with the shadow edges showing at the top of the page , then reloads in full , when swapping between widgets and home page for example.

I don't know if its just me though I have tried it on mutiple PC's and ISP's !

It must be something to do with the way IE renders the page as either it doesnt happen on FF or its too quick for you to see.

Any pointers very welcome . Thanks for the reply.

I put this in the tpl_header and nada. The word "Blog" didn't even show up on the nav bar.

What else should I try? Remember, you're talking to a real dummy when it comes to this stuff ;)

CHANGE it to this:

<li><a href="http://link-here.htm"><span>Link Title Here</span></a></li>

Then in stylesheet.css, change this:

#navMain {
	float:right;
	width:750px;
	line-height:normal;
	}

to this:

#navMain {
	float:right;
	width:100%;
	line-height:normal;
	}

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

Hi Jet,

Can you help me with this issue? I can't seem to find where to go to correct this.
My website is: http://www.720moto.com/Store/

As you can see on the upper right side of the page there is a HOME and Log In link and also the SEARCH bar is in the middle of the page, how do I move it to the left side of the page or remove it altogether?

Thanks,
Rudy

you should be looking in your tpl_header.php file , in your template/common folder.

looks like you have tried to move it to the right by placing it after the links for home page. also it looks like you have created a new div called navMainLinks , I may be wrong but I dont see this on my fresh install of Cherry_zen

the search part of that bar is

<div id="navMainSearch">
          <?php require(DIR_WS_MODULES . 'sideboxes/search_header.php'); ?>
        </div>

the default setup for that whole section is between the comments <!--bof-navigation display-->
and

<!--eof-navigation display-->

you could download a fresh copy of the template and copy out that part and paster it into your modified tpl_header to try and remedy things.

Hope that helps.

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

I like your template very much.
I'd like to know how to remove product description from the product listing. I'd also like to change the product price color and font size. I am very new in this code. Please tell me exactly where I have to adjust.
Here is my site http://www.omegagolfshop.com//index.php?main_page=index&cPath=72&sort=20a&page=2

Many thanks!

This is happening with Firefox too! Sometimes I also get vertical line (looks like a huge cursor) that shows up on the right side of the page. I customized the template so I thought it was something I had goofed up until I went to another site that uses the template and I encounters both issues. I would very much like to fix the page rendering issue - the other I can live with since it doesn't happen very often.

I don't have time to test this, but try removing the stylesheet_dropshadow.css from the server, then see if the issue still occurs. It may be due to the drop shadow around the site, if so, you'd have to choose between rendering issues and style.

You might also test removing this section of code:
/* IE only. Controls Width of Site and Main Content*/

  • html #nw {
    width:expression((d=document.compatMode=="CSS1Compat" ? document.documentElement : document.body) && (d.clientWidth > 1300? "1300px" : d.clientWidth > 1048? "80%" : d.clientWidth < 1048? "1000px" : "80%")); /* this prevents the site from getting smaller than 1000px or wider than 1300px in IE /
    }
    /
    end IE only */

from the stylesheet.css and seeing if it goes away.

If either of those is not it, I don't have any good suggestions. I have no such issues, but I also have a fast internet connection. On slow connections, a lot of sites render funny.

Re: Cherry Zen Template Support Thread

CherryZen is a wonderful template. Its just that making it what you want may become difficult. I made some changes to the template relating to the image/logo, the top nav menu, its alignment, and a few other changes – which obviously you may or may not like. But ... as the template is free, I am ready to provide you with the css and some changed files from my site if you want.
http://www.bollywoodlollywood.ca/

I have made side boxes / column width 180px instead of standard 150. Had to deviate from the documentation for my top image to fit properly as the instructions did not exactly work for me. Specially, the site looked stupid in IE6. IE7 and Firefox are fine. So I removed some of the code for IE. Its now working fine.

Installed IH2 as per instructions, enlarged the Logo image to fit screen size of 1000px fixed, Navigation top menu has same bg/color and larger font, bg image has been adjusted to fit sideboxes, Product info display has been changed; also removed model/stock and weight.

I have a couple of problems though.

  1. The search engines wont index the site
  2. If you go to google and search for ‘bollywoodlollywood.ca’, you will find a link (were a lot of such links) that seem like a hack of some kind. I have removed all such pages/links from the folders, but they are still showing up in google. I have attached it below for reference.

Google Result for ‘bollywoodlollywood.ca’

Any help will be appreciated. Your feedback is most welcome.

Farhan
