I have been scouring these forums for the last few weeks for any assistance I could while converting from OSCommerce (OSCMax) to Zen Cart. I figured it was time to come out in the open. To the credit of the board and the FAQ’s I was able to locate enough into that I have not had to post up until now.
My name is Bryan. I am a self proclaimed nerd from bygone days. I have been acting as a SysAdmin for my wife’s business for the past few years. Started off with a Static site. Grew to nearly 50 pages with no sign of stopping so dragged the wife into the age of the eCommerce Cart. Got OSCommerce running and began hacking away. After a server burp, decided to swap over to a loaded version (OSCMax) and was off again. Well times change, requirements change. While the OSC was working just fine, I had made so many changes to the base code that it would require an outsider many hours to repair problems or make adjustments. This is an issue because I am in the Army and will be deploying in the future. While I am away in one of the sand boxes I will not be able to quickly support the code and we may require assistance. I figured if I found the right solution, we would be able to locate someone that could jump in and assist my wife as required. I looked around and Zen Cart looked to offer what I wanted. Stable code, nearly drop an additions, little base code hacking for most of what we needed.
I went forward with the swap. Let me tell you, migrating nearly ALL data from a massively modified OSC to Zen was a challenge. However, after a few hours time working with the Zen database I was able to import 95% (100% of required info). And with only minor tweaking the new store was swapped in place of the old. There have been some pains. There are some features that we are working around at the moment that I hope become built into the main code at some point. Here is what I have added so far:

- FCKeditor 2.5
- Super Orders 2.0 rev45
- Edit Orders (This should be a core feature.)
- Add Customer from Admin (This should be a core feature.)
- Admin Login as Customer
- Column Layout for Products (This should be a core feature.)
- Links Manager 3.3.1
- Sales Report
- Testimonials Manager 1.4.5
The configuration and minor code hacks are of course are numerous.
Pulled nearly all remaining hair out of my head trying to locate issue with ADMIN->CATAGORIES/PRODUCTS search function. Searches were returning less then 5% of the appropriate products. Ended up by chance trying ADMIN->TOOLS->StoreManager “Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID” function fixed the issue. I was thinking a divorce was on the horizon if I could not get that search working.
Well, that about covers my plunge into the world of ZC.
