Printer Spam

Coming Soon: Spam on Your Printer From the Web

Just when you think you've seen it all, along comes XSP.

There is an article about this at PC World. Apparently, there is no end to people trying to figure out loopholes or vulnerabilities and this time, one was found within various Browsers. It works using a little known vulnerability within Browsers and targets connected Networked Printers.

The good news is that it only works with Printers that are Networked. Most of us with personal Printers probably have them turned off anyway or, hopefully, at the end of the day. No big deal there.

The bad news is that a lot of Network Admins may find their workload increased. Either from the printing of Spam and/or somewhat more serious problems with Networked Servers and Services.

Some Browser creators (FF anyway) are on the ball though, and steps will be taken to close this vulnerability.
