Website Rob:
For the most part, once Zen Cart is setup and functional there is not much that goes wrong, thus, no need for round-the-clock Support. If there is a problem it is usually due to what somebody did whilst working on the site (which includes within the Admin section) or the Hoster did something they shouldn't have; and which you would contact the Hoster about.
And of course, no new work / changes should be done on a live site -- which gives the opportunity to work out any kinks before transferring to the live site. That takes a lot of pressure off everyone.
But, I think you failed to take into consideration the 'thousands' that are using it.. and the 'thousands' more that will be using it. This creates a 24 hour period of those in distress. And, having programmed software since 1978, I can testify to the fact that nothing in the world of software or web sites is ever 'completely' finished. I only suggested that support be offered to further offset the costs to the 'Team', and to maybe give them a little more incentive (not that they already don't have it.. or give their all). If the 'team' gets enough funding. it may give them the opportunity to make a few bucks for doing all they have done. I grew up telling my kids.. if you find something that you like and can make a living at it.. you'll never have to work a day in your life. And, not to deprive 3rd party programmers from making a buck; but there are those that make these mods for dozens of other carts as well.. and in my opinion some don't really know the software as well as they should.. nor can they make mods that would be as functional and error free as the 'team'. Again, I just offered one mans opinion and suggested a service for those that may be interested. Maybe a poll of this topic would be a good place to begin?
