USPS is a Joke

Hello, just a quick note for those who dont know,
When you pay for ( or get for free ) Delivery Confirmation, this is a joke to the customer recieving the packages.

Over the weekend we had 2 packages that were marked as delivered on the confirmation number, however several people say the postal carrier actuallscanning packages and putting them back intheir truck,

needless to say we didnt get our items,
we cant fight it because the packages show as delivered,
and even though they were insured we cant even get our funds back through the insurance we paid for.

Delivery confirmation is a GREAT idea, however when all thats required to be "Delivered" is to scan the package, dosnt matter where it goes from there, back in the truck, in the trash or some little cretin steals it the end user loses.......

Ok Sorry Rant Over

Re: USPS is a Joke

Good rant and its not the first time the issue has occurred. You could help us all by calling the USPS Office of Inspector General.

If the postal worker was seen scanning packages, then you have some recourse. I would get written statements from your neighbors that saw them and then contact the Post office that services your area. If they don't do anything then go to the district office and talk to them.

Happened to my uncle who did just that and although he didn't get his packages back, he did ge the insurance value for them. Turns out the postal employee was stealing packages based on what might be in it.

It might be worth a shot.

Re: USPS is a Joke

Merlin, We have had some packages marked as Delivered show up later. We ask our customers to let the mail person know that the package shows delivered but that they didn't receive it... and ask them to look around for it. It seems I saw a rant against UPS not long ago marking a package delivered and it not being at their house. Do also please notify the inspector general besides going to the post office. If your mail carrier is a thief and enough people report issues to the inspector they may be able to catch him/her.

Re: USPS is a Joke

You run into that every now and then, not just USPS, so do not blame them.
I even had a case with the AUS POS when my package (a laptop) was reported delivered when it's not.

Re: USPS is a Joke

I wish their scanner recorded a GPS point during the scan. Maybe it will someday. Good luck.

Re: USPS is a Joke

Well for all those that want a followup,

Went to the post office,
asked them to check to make sure that they were not returned to the station by mistake.

Then I spoke to the post master and was informed that as long as its scanned they consider the item delivered,

and even though I filled out a police report Saturday, I was told to go to the Post Office and file the theft report there,

well you cant file a theft report at the local station, you haver to go online.
and when you manage to find the correct link to get to the OIG then you hit the link that says report mail theft, and you get a hotline thats open 4 Hrs a day mon-fri
or you can leave an email.......

Well filed the reports now Im off to try to find the forms to fill out for the insurance.

Lesson for people, When you buy at Auction, ask the seller to let you pay for signature confirmation, then at least SOMEONE has to sign for it,

Re: USPS is a Joke

signature confirmation?
Thats a joke to. I have seen the mail person sign it and leave it on express deliveries. Thats really bad. I say this knowing that 99 percent of my customers use USPS because of the price. Many of my items are light and go out First Class Package rate. I have had a Priority Mail package show up 2 months late, that really sucks because I sent a replacement at 2 weeks into the delay.

Thanks for the update and good idea on the door and survelience. It's a shame that this kind of thing happens. I live in a small town and do all my business with the small PO here. It's rural delivery so you can buy stamps from the post lady by leaving money in the mailbox. I haven't heard of any packge thefts here, but I know it does in the city which is only 6 miles away.

Re: USPS is a Joke

Well after a crap load of time searhing I finally found the place to actually report stolen mail,

http://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/

once you get al the info filled out you get this as a confirmation screen

Thank you for completing this form. You will receive an e-mail with your reference number within 48 hours.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service gathers data on mail-related crime to determine whether a violation has occurred. While we can't guarantee that we can recover lost money or items, your information can help alert Inspectors to problem areas and possibly prevent other people from being victimized.

U.S. Postal Inspectors base their investigations on the number, substance, and pattern of complaints received from the public. We ask you to keep all original documents related to your complaint. We will contact you ONLY if more information is needed.

as you can see they still dont give a damn,
however heaven forbid a mail carrier should have to get out of their little buggy and deliver the mail,

and now they want to raise postage AGAIN.
can someone please tell me what the price increases pay for?
Sure as hell isnt competent workers....

Rant continues.

( a quick note for any one that collects things, in this case a die cast ( limited number and serialized ) and an out of production Barbi ) you will understand my frustraton, its not like a CD or a DVD that can actualy be replaced easily

Re: USPS is a Joke

Wishing you luck and hoping this will be resolved soon, Merlin, and that you'll receive your merchandise. Very frustrating reporting that your mail has been stolen, and like you said, USPS and LEO's don't give a flip.

I believe the price increase is probably for the price of gas. It is around $3.10 here yesterday. And I live within a few miles of 4-5 gas plants!
