Can anybody help me? Tell me for God's sake, what to write in the readme, to make it clear? Now it says:

Install:

0. BACK UP your database & store.
1. Unzip the SitemapXML package to your local hard drive, retaining the folder structure.
2. Rename the "YOUR_Admin" folder in the "sitemapXML" folder to match the name of your admin folder.
   sitemapXML/YOUR_Admin/
3. Upload the files from "sitemapXML" to the root of your store. (DO NOT upload the "sitemapXML" folder, just the CONTENTS of this folder
   (copy ALL of the add-on files to your store!! Most issues are caused by store owners who decide to NOT load ALL of the module files)
4. Set permissions on the directory /sitemap/ to 777.
5. Run YOUR_Admin/-install-sitemapxml.php
6. Go to Admin -> Tools -> Sitemap XML and click "Install SitemapXML SQL".
   6.1 If you are using the Admin Profiles contribution, you need to set the Sitemap XML plugin Admin configuration permission. Go to Tools->Admin Settings->Permissions button and put a checkmark at "sitemap XML" plugin. (There are two checkboxes for Sitemap XML; the second is added after the installation done in step 6.)
7. Go to Admin -> Configuration -> Sitemap XML and setup all parameters.
8. Go to Admin -> Tools -> Sitemap XML (If error messages occur, change permissions on the XML files to 777).
   What is not clear?

why does the manufacturers sitemap generation take account of language options when as far as I can see, all the fields it deals with are not language dependent?

I would still like to know how to get this add-on up and running. I know that it is very important to google to have a mapping system so I know I need it. Can anyone help with this?

Run it from the browser using the relevant address:
www.yoursite/YOUR_ADMIN/-install-sitemapxml.php

Load that url in your browser to run it.

Log into your admin.
Replace the placeholder data with your store url in www.yoursite/YOUR_ADMIN/-install-sitemapxml.php
View that page in your browser.

That page is the install script.

Your question does not make sense. view the page, thenn check to see if you see it in the Tools menu.

Yup. There's nothing to view on the page. All it does is add the item to the menu.

Then tell me what should be added to the instructions or possibly even the code that others will not have to deal with this. It's obvious the author didn't know what to do. He even said so. Can you help with this?

It was step 5 in the readme:

I read it as the author asking 'how much simpler does it need to be'. So I'll ask the same question, how would you re-write that step so others don't make the same mistake you did?

I have installed many plug-ins in aprox 4 sites so far and have never seen anything like that before, ever. I wonder how many others have never either. Possibly, I should elaborate so it is "more understandable." The problem is, even I don't understand it. Need to think about this.

It's not clear. On the one hand for each manufacturer are entries in each language. On the other hand, these entries differ only website address, which is very strange.
I can offer to add a parameter to sitemap configuration - to generate or not generate language dependent links to the manufacturer.

I looked how installed other plug-ins. It turns out for a long time no one observes the old rules and everything is already installed plug-ins automatically. And it is right. In the near future I will add automatic installation of the plugin.

is correct, of course, but I get the same error but ONLY when calling from the cgi-bin file.

Xampp, local, php 5.6: no error
Xampp, local, php 7.04: error

I modified the function to get more info:

and added an extra parameter LINE in the various calls in the class to find out where it was called from.

screen output is "interesting" in that there are two calls to this function and it appears the first one is what generates the error due to having no path info:

working backwards I think there is an error here as the path is missing
