Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Will there be a new includes/modules/additional_images.php coming soon seeing how 1.3.9e overwrites this file?

Thanks,
Marc

Don't know since we've not had any chance to look at the 1.3.9e release files to see if this file even changed since the 1.3.9d release.. Since Rev8b of IH2 this file is in an override folder. So for now this is a NON issue for those using the Rev8b fileset. If you are using an older version of IH2, and are concerned, then you should at least upgrade to the Rev8b fileset.

The only change to /includes/modules/additional_images.php is extending the initial conditional to not run the code if additional images are set to off (and the comments, and stripping the ?> at the end of the file).

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

My site is running the latest edition of Image Handler and is working just fine with the recent upgrade to zencart.

I haven't been about or keeping up to date with this thread ( its a very long thread )

What is being tested in this new edition and what differences to the current version. ?

I know, i know, i could do a search or look back over many pages but i'm being lazy and just asking the question here.

It's a LONG answer so I'm afraid I'm gonna have to (respectfully) ask that you page back through the last 4-5 days postings to get up to speed.. It's all posted here..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Thanks Glenn.. We're testing whether there is still a need for this file at all in the IH2 package based on the version in the latest Zen Cart fileset..

In the meantime those using the Rev8b fileset should be fine upgrading to the new Zen Cart release since this file is in an override folder for IH2. (Thanks to Ajeh for pointing that out!)

I'm fine with long answers.

Incidentally i'm using fual slimbox with image handler, today after upgrading to the latest zencart version i note that when you click the main image that the numbered listing for the additional images is now gone, usually you can click one image and fual slimbox allows you to scroll through any additional images on the page without clicking out of that image, thats not happening anymore for me.

I assume its something to do with the latest update, i missed this issue earlier. Not sure if its also related to image handler 2, it would be good if anyone using image handler 2 and fual slimbox and has the latest zencart update could check this small issue.

Ok its an image handler issue with fual slimbox.

I have replaced the additional images ( image handler file ) with the fual slimbox one in includes/modules/your template/additional images.php and hey presto the additional images scroll now works once again.

I'm sure thats one of the things you have been working on and if i had read the previous posts i may have known that. :o)

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

question:

if we already have IH2 installed do we need to instll the newest update to it --- is there anything security wise to make it a must or can we leave well enough alone.

sorry if that is doesn't make very much sende...my mom died last week and I don't make much sense right now.

was just wondering if we need to update a working IH2 for the newest version or am I fine as is.

Said this on the Fual thread.. should post here too..

The exact answer appears to be that the issue with IH2 & additional images is a webhost specific issue based on how php is implemented on some hosts. Like I posted earlier, if you look through this support thread (posts from the last 3-4 days) the details are fully explained.. (You SHOULD take the time to read through)

I think however is that part of the issue is that you did not properly merge the includes/modules/your template/additional images.php files that come with both Fual Slimbox and IH2. Merging the two should resolve any conflicts. This is not an easy job since Fual was written for Zen 1.3.8 and the Fual specific changes are not super obvious. It will take doing some comparisons between the Fual files and Zen 1.3.8 to make note all of the Fual modifications. Then compare that to the latest Zen Cart version to merge in any current Zen version specific changes. Then FINALLY comparing the file to the Image Handler version and incorporating the IH2 specific modifications.

FYI, the current version of Fual may have issues on PHP 5.3 servers as it appears to still contains functions I believe are deprecated in PHP 5.3. (Still need to confirm this when I get around to trying to convert Fual for Zen 1.3.9 for my test store..)

I'm using InMotion Hosting and a VPS server and PHP 5.2.9, if you get any information on what some hosts are doing with regards their PHP implementation i'd love to know so i can contact them and perhaps ask for them to change a few settings.

I expect them to update to PHP 5.3 before the year is out.

Thanks for testing and thanks for the update!!!

fei2010:

Hey there.. It really is an awful lot to explain, so when you get a chance, read through the last few days of forum activity to get the full details.. I realize that some of the posts from the last coupla days were more about finger pointing and insults, but there is some pretty good information once you get past the less than helpful stuff to get to the REAL issue..

Bottom line it's a permissions issue with the bmz_cache folder. This issue doesn't affect all hosts/servers.. It seems to depend on how PHP is implements on different webhosts.

So if the situation doesn't apply to you, then you don't need to do anything.. Frankly IH2 has been "working" this way for so long with no issues that I am aware of (including any serious store breaches) that I leave it up to individual shop owners to decide. That said once we get all the testers to report in, I will be submitting IH2 Rev8c to the downloads section.

DarkAngel:

Still don't wanna read the last few days worth of activity huh?? I asked the testers to report their test findings HERE in the support thread (which BTW, you would know if you followed the activity from the last few days..)

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

You'll need to speak to your host about their PHP implementation.. I can't provide any specific information on what other hosts are doing.. It's just very clear that some of the issues we've come across in the last few days do not affect all webhosts..

Trust me Diva sweety, I did read the 6 pages of posts that I missed but they are mush in my brain right now so even if it is something we have to update...I would not be able to do it without killing my site.

maybe after I get things straight after mothers death and things get back to quasi-normal I can attempt to read them over again. :(

thanks

I understand.. Honestly I think you should be okay.. This permissions thing has been in place mostly un-noticed for a very long time now.. So I think you'll be okay for a moment..

Sorry to hear about your mom..:( My condolences to you and your family..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Don't wish to rain on your love-fest parade, but we who criticize are also a major positive influence for the good of these projects (despite getting bashed regularly - not just IE2).

I wish that free project "volunteers" truly understood this - all too often, the type of comments which commercial interests learn to tolerate (and seriously learn from) are scorned in these forums; to everyone's detriment IMHO.

Please - it is a forum (looking the word up on Google: a medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas) and as such, you do the project a disservice if you do not accept and learn from criticism.

I re-read the last few pages and saw no finger-pointing or insults - except from those who should know better.

That said, volunteers on this site do a good job, but that does not mean standards - of any kind - should be lowered.
