Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

all i know is that I do not have php 5.3, I have 5.2.6 with zend 2.2.0

and when i first installed IH2 the hover did not work, the mid size would not show when the hover finally did work

I played with the sizes of my images then one day I came in and the hover with medium image showed and there was the watermark for both the med and lrg images

that is why I uploaded earlier the images of how my setting are in the images section of configuration so others may try them too and see if they behave.

now I had to also try it in a different browser too for the caching or cookie for the store did not catch up immediately with Firefox but once it did start working with the others it finally did with firefox too.

I just want to thank DivaVocals for all she has done with the addon and here to help with problems.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

To further my previous point. Here's all Ms Gunderson bothered to put in her mod description.. The rest of it is EXACTLY the same as the original IH2.. So there is NO CLEAR WAY to distinguish what is different about this version (if anything)

Originally submitted by Tim Kroeger, but upgrades by others have broken the additional images function on the product info page.

This has been tested and works for version 1.3.9

This is the original version with some prior upgrades by others - and updated for zen version 1.3.9For the record this vague description says absolutely NOTHING. IMO this version will cause ISSUES and confusion since the author doesn't bother to elaborate on the "fixes" included. (the author doesn't even update the readme file with at LEAST some release notes AT ALL)

LASTLY--
why submit this "version" as a whole new module??? If what she's done is an IMPROVEMENT to IH2 as a whole, it should have been submitted as an UPDATE to Image Handler.. Now if it really is a departure from the original app then yes submit it as a new module.. (with YOUR OWN README FILE which clearly states that your mod is a fork, spin-off, whatever of the original). This way it is CLEAR what is being downloaded and what it brings to the table.. (Just my 3 cents)

Shane78:

If its not PHP5.3 READYThe "spin-off" version of IH2 you are referring to is NOT PHP 5.3 compatible.

Shane78:

just willing to chip in with this mods future development... maybe collective group donation would be a better way of saying it.

my hosts are upgrading to PHP5.3, as far as i know, this is the only mod that i use on my three sites that will break. while i dont use the fancy AJAX image hover (i dont like it) i love how it handles small/medium image adjusting on the fly and the watermark feature is a must...Perhaps you are missing my point. I have paid for custom mods, and even paid for some enhancements to Super Orders that I did not include in the version I compiled and submitted to the downloads section.. I just don't understand why you are paying for a version of IH2 when it's not CLEAR what is different about this version than the original add-on..

That said, you are free to pay whomever you like to fix the Judy Gunderson's version of IH2 (though the differences and benefits of this version of IH2 are unclear). As I posted earlier today, I will be submitting an update to the ORIGINAL version of IH2 that is PHP 5.3 compatible..

Shane78:

unless you know of 2 mods that allow for watermarks and image management?Yes I know of an image management software that watermarks images.. It's called IMAGE HANDLER (the original version).. Can you tell me what is different about the version Judy Gunderson submitted??? Because as far as I can see there is NOTHING different. (I'll do some further file merging tonight to confirm)

DarkAngel:

and when i first installed IH2 the hover did not work, the mid size would not show when the hover finally did work

I played with the sizes of my images then one day I came in and the hover with medium image showed and there was the watermark for both the med and lrg imagesHover on medium images does not work and never has worked in IH2. Those who do somehow manage to have it working via the "patch" that has been posted should be aware that the patch is incompatible with most lightbox apps and NOT PHP 5.3 compatible.. While that may not matter NOW for some, it should be a big concern within the next year as more hosts convert to PHP 5.3

DarkAngel:

I just want to thank DivaVocals for all she has done with the addon and here to help with problems. You're welcome..

Shane78:

might be time for a :smartalec: to develop IH3?..To add what features besides making hovering on medium images work??

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

As long as everyone's throwing in their $.02 on what they'd like to see in improvements to IH2, can I chime in for a bit better documentation? I'm still at a loss to understand how to trouble-shoot my missing watermarks, for one thing.

Just a suggestion.

Just a suggestion.Sure chime away.. As a member of this community you or anyone else can contribute the better documentation you seek.. I co-wrote the current readme, and frankly I thought we did a MUCH better job than the original readme file in laying out HOW to use the application and HOW to install it.. That said I don't know how to explain any better how to set up images than what's in the current readme. So if anyone wants that improved, please write that up and, I am happy to incorporate it into the readme for the next release..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

I don't think that my trying to improve documentation on an add-on I don't fully understand is a good idea. Once I get my arms around IH2 a bit better, I'd be happy to try, though.

What I was getting at is, it's quite possible -- in fact, probable -- that IH2 is quite fine just the way it is, and that my troubles with it are more due to my lack of thorough understanding of it. My inability to get the watermarks working, for example, is almost certainly not a problem with the add-on itself, since lots of other people have found that it works fine. The problem is mine. I was only trying to suggest that better documentation (in general) might help to obviate problems like mine. I didn't mean to offend anyone with that remark.

Also: am I correct in assuming that we're talking about this version of IH2?

I wasn't offended, I was merely pointing out that as the co-author of the current readme document I was under the impression that we already HAD clearly explained things.. So if that is not true, then someone will have to provide me with copy to include in the readme file that is improved based on community needs.. If someone wants to do this, I will be more than happy to include it in the next release..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

I'd like to return to the subject of why my watermarks don't seem to be working correctly. I've created a watermark file in images, images/large and images/medium. In Configuration->Images, I have watermarks set for medium and large images.

The ONLY place where I get watermarks is when I rollover an image in the "New Products" area.

Any suggestions? Thanks. Other than this, IH2 seems to be working marvelously for me.

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

Shane78:

I havent paid for anything! i found this in the downloads section!

i said, i would be willing to chip in for the future of this mod.Have you taken a close look at the the version of IH2 Judy Gunderson has submitted. Her version doesn't MAJORLY change ANYTHING in IH2 so why she submitted it as a NEW and separate module is beyond me..

After comparing her version last night to Rev 7 of IH2 it seems clear that she should have submitted it as an UPDATE with a MUCH BETTER explanation of what she "did" in her submission notes.. Also her "version" implies that it fixes a problem that was never a problem (that I was a aware of) even with the new version of Zen Cart.

My point was I would not pay ANYONE to make this particular version (the Judy Gunderson version) of IH2 PHP 5.3 compatible since with the exception of a VERY MINOR change I do not see ANYTHING ELSE different in her version. (and since I'm not a coder, I will be asking a friend or two to help me interpret the code that Judy did add to IH2 to determine WHAT it is supposed to do)

Shane78:

and wouldn't a rewrite of IH"2 to bring it up to PHP5.3 and to fix the things that dont work be a considerable task.. thus warranting a new version number?Other than the hover on medium images (which has NEVER been coded into IH2 and which I imagine WOULD be a fairly complicated undertaking if compatibility with lightbox mods is to be maintained..) what features don't work???

I posted yesterday that I will be submitting a PHP 5.3 compatible version of the ORIGINAL IH2. The changes to make IH2 PHP 5.3 compatible are MINOR at best and do not warrant a major version number change.

I am of the opinion that updating the Judy Gunderson version with no real understanding of WHAT SHE CHANGED is not a good idea.. Which is why I PERSONALLY would not pay to fix THAT version..

Shane78:

and if i wanted a feature coding and required coughing up some cash for it, i wouldn't mind having this available for free in the downloads... what's a few quid to help others?Nothing.. I have paid for feature coding before, but my point was that I personally wouldn't spend ANY money on a version of IH2 which is VAGUELY documented, and as far as I can tell brings NOTHING new to the table.

She (Judy Gunderson) in essence took the Rev 7 version of IH2, add a LITTLE bit of code to it, made some VAGUE reference to some "broken" functionality (that has NEVER been broken or even reported broken), changed NONE of the supporting documentation, and then submitted it as a NEW mod (instead of an update to the existing mod) Now if YOU want to pay to have THAT version updated to make it PHP 5.3 compatible, knock yourself out.. I will submit Rev 8 (as an UPDATE to Rev 7) to the downloads section, and it won't cost me or anyone a dime to use it..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

wow, that's a lot of words to read...

i shall be brief..

a) not even downloaded to look at the differences.. i simply found it last night because i see mods are being updated to 139 without us knowing about it to add to the list.

b) Give the lass a break, good on her for trying. while you might think her efforts arent good or confusing, to be listed it has to get approval... have a rant at who ever approved it. (wait till you see what i do to Login Spuce Up)

c) i dont care if its IH2, IH2a, IH3, or a totally new mod.. so long as it' works and is 139a and 139B (yes, there's another one coming) compatible, PHP5.3 compatible, zen lightbox compatible, isnt buggy or a security risk and easy to install! (having a feature to make me a brew would be good too)

Right, cant be on the ZC forums all day, some of us have proper jobs to do, lol :P

The Judy Gunderson version is going to cause CONFUSION.. IMO it should NOT even be included on your list of "mods that work with Zen Cart".

It has already been established that IH2 Rev 7 is Zen Cart 1.3.9a compatible, and I will be submitting an update which will ALSO make it PHP 5.3 compatible.

Before we go calling for folks to pool their resources on an update of this "new" IH2 version, we should at least know what it does that is so all fired different from the current version of IH2. (I cannot see what BIG change she made, and the feature she claimed she "fixed" was -to my knowledge- never broken)

Shane78:

b) Give the lass a break, good on her for trying. while you might think her efforts arent good or confusing, to be listed it has to get approval... have a rant at who ever approved it. (wait till you see what i do to Login Spuce Up)I wasn't giving her a hard time, merely stating what I see to be the current state of affairs. It's not about me thinking her efforts aren't good enough. It's about her not fully qualifying or documenting her changes. It's about her creating a NEW version of IH2, and in doing so creating what appears to be a FORK in this application (whether that was by design or by accident) with no major code changes or documentation to back up the need for a NEW SEPERATE version.. I'll say it again, her "version" of Zen Cart is going to create issues in terms of support because of this. (surely you can see how this is true right??)

Shane78:

(having a feature to make me a brew would be good too)Got it, but if you're going to ask for a new major version number, you should know that it USUALLY means a major code change. (hence the explanation)

It's already been established that IH2 works with the latest and greatest version of Zen Cart, and AGAIN I will be submitting a PHP 5.3 compatible version soon (having it tested now to ensure it really IS PHP 5.3 compatible)

IH2 is stable (ie - not buggy), and compatible with most lightbox mods...

DivaVocals:

It's not actually been added to the list that i have created... dunno where you got the impression it was,,, Less speed and more haste maybe! You're getting confused with the mod test submitted by Clyde Jones. When I add a mod to the list I add the whole title copy and pasted from the listing. Note it says 'zc137' and has been there since the 2nd list I made.

DivaVocals:

im not joking btw... lol, seriously.. it's in the bugs threads!

Whether your intention is to give this lass a hard time or not.. it is coming across that way... agree or disagree with me, that is your prerogative, but that is the perception your posts have given regarding this subject, because they have such gusto about them.

Note it says 'zc137' and has been there since the 2nd list I made.I'm not confused at all.. However your list of compatible apps appears to list IH2 TWICE. So it left me with the impression that you were referring to the Rev7 version of the original and the version submitted by Ms Gunderson. Until Ms Gunderson submitted her "new" version, there has only been two versions of IH2 available in the downloads (1 for ver 1.3.x and one for ver 1.2.7)
Image Handler 2 for v1.2.7
Last Updated by: Tim Kroeger

Ver 2.0 Image Handler 2 for v1.3.x
Last Updated by: ckosloff Ver 2.0 Rev 7

To be clear, you asked about pooling resources to pay for PHP 5.3 updates to Judy Gunderson's version of IH2 in the IH2 support thread as if it (Ms Gunderson's version of IH2) was something IN ADDITION TO or IMPROVED FROM the original version of IH2. Hence my initial response and all of my subsequent responses on this matter.. I would daresay that since this "version" is new most folks frequenting this support thread knew nothing about it until your post. I only wanted to make sure it was CRYSTAL clear that what has been submitted by Ms Gunderson is NOT anything new (or even improved based on what I can see was modified).

Shane78:

Then make an official complaint/query with the four ZC developers / moderators of ZC that authorised its entry.I don't need to make an official complaint.. If Ms Gunderson wants to submit her "fork" of IH2 she is free to do so.. It's open source that's how it works.. However, I felt the responsible thing to do was to inform those who come to this thread looking for support to know that the version of IH2 submitted by Judy Gunderson does not appear to be a true fork of the original IH2 module and it is NOT PHP 5.3 compatible. (again whether the separate submission was by design or by accident this is still a fact)

Shane78:

excellent, i cannot wait.. will it be zc139b compatible? lol..
im not joking btw... lol, seriously.. it's in the bugs threads!IH2 is already Zen Cart 1.3.9a compatible what I will be submitting will include PHP 5.3 compatibility as well..

Shane78:

Whether your intention is to give this lass a hard time or not.. it is coming across that way... agree or disagree with me, that is your prerogative, but that is the perception your posts have given regarding this subject, because they have such gusto about them.and I do disagree.. I am absolutely NOT giving her a hard time.. If stating what has occurred is giving her a hard time then so be it.. But I stated what I can see clearly (with no emotions or "gusto" attached -- only the ones which others ASSUME are there ). So let me restate it all so it's clear:

  • The Judy Gunderson version of IH2 does not appear to be any kind of MAJOR re-write of IH2. (which IMO does not require it to be submitted as a NEW separate version)
  • The Judy Gunderson version of IH2 adds some minor edits, and I will be confirming with a programmer to make sure I understand what the code she added does in fact "do"
  • The Judy Gunderson version of IH2 is NOT PHP 5.3 compatible
  • The Judy Gunderson version of IH2 purports to fix a "broken feature" that is not in fact broken to my knowledge
Now I am happy to be proven wrong, but since Ms Gunderson did not include adequate documentation with her submission, it's hard to come to any other conclusions. Call it picking, even call it picking with "gusto" but I prefer to call it having a discussion of things that are out there in the open to be seen and discussed..

Re: Image Handler 2 (for ZC v1.3.8 ONLY) Support

you are confused, and you are not understanding me.. and you are wrong. This may be my fault for not expressing myself in a way that you understand... or maybe a problem with differences in our cultures...

after all we come from two great nations divided by a common language.

However.. this statement does sum it all up

“Now I am happy to be proven wrong”
I am not here to prove you or anyone wrong...
I simply give my view point...

But you clearly dont listen...
I ask “will it be zc139b compatible”

you reply “IH2 is already Zen Cart 1.3.9a compatible..”

that's not what I asked..

as I say,,, less speed and more haste..

you are confused, and you are not understanding me.. and you are wrong.

I ask “will it be zc139b compatible”

you reply “IH2 is already Zen Cart 1.3.9a compatible..”

that's not what I asked..

as I say,,, less speed and more haste..Again I'm NOT CONFUSED. I heard you, and I do not expect that 1.3.8B will be VASTLY different from 1.3.9A (hence why the version number the Zen Cart team used for this release does not increment the number and only increments the letter to distinguish the versions -- this indicates that this is probably a MINOR release)

So therefore if IH2 is compatible with 1.3.9A it's likely going to STILL be compatible with 1.3.9B as well.. Now if you needed me to EXPLICITLY state then, then there you have it.. If 1.3.9b is out before testing of the PHP 5.3 compatible version is complete we will confirm this.. Otherwise if there is a minor update required after I submit it (which I think is unlikely), I will cross that bridge when I get to it..
